Unit 707 Photo Essay: South Korean Female Military Special Forces

Chung Jeong-hyun, from the Chosun Ilbo has a photo essay about women in the 707th Special Forces unit. The link is a bit dated (July 2002), but still is good material.

    Female Military Special Force

Inside the special forces, which is best known for its black beret and zebra pattern, there is another special unit. Created last 1981, Unit 707, called the ‘special forces within the special forces’ selects the cream of the crop for irregular missions and operations against terrorists and spies. Unit 707 is evaluated to have harder training and skills than that of North Korea’s special 8 unit but their special pride are the female special force members. The female members go through harsh training and highly skilled education and have the ability to suppress several people in a wink of an eye.

I have no doubt they can easily suppress me with a wink of the eye. "Die enemy scum! *aims gun* Wait, you'd say you'd go out with me? Sure, I love bulgogi! Right now? Okay... here... hold my gun while I get my jacket..."

Yeah, they're pretty insane. Asians maybe small, but they can kick some serious ass when it comes to it.

My Uncle told me about special forces in Korea (he's a colonel in the Korean army) they do some messed up sh*T that would make any army/force look like a boyscout camp

That's wonderful, son, but they'd still lose a war to anyone else in the region.

My old Muay Thai gym used to have a female fighter that was former 707th.

Her Kiai was scary, it would literally put the whole gym into vibration.

And her strikes were just as hard (if anything toughter) as a male.

She kind of reminded me my cousin. She was just like her father (my uncle) who was one of those people that are physically gifted.

Funny thing was that she looks quite feminine outside.

She used to man-handle me in arm wrestling before I began seriously working out.

She also used to be captain of just about every sport in her high school. It was funny (in a nice way) because she was breaking stereotype of asian girl being weak by sending people left and right that was on her way (to goal etc.)

I was trying to say that I thought it was interesting how you are somewhat aware of reality and yet you trump up an "army" that you know would lose to "boyscout camps".

What you said about economics is almost as inane but I wont' go off-topic that much.

    Ah ok miscommunication.
To explain, Im sure you know that special forces are quite different from the regular army. In the 70s./80s while training, in the regular army, food was supplied, in special forces (particularly the gongsoo boodae (airborne unit) they had to produce/fetch their food in the mountains. Training ground for them was in the old sewers often for days where they had to sleep there too.
So I do think the army (although I admit I did apply for the candian armed force but was 'declined' for the most ridiculous excuse, I apparently have a narrow peripheral vision.....I had no clue you had to have an owl's or goldfish peripheral vision to be in the army) has it a bit easier than various special forces.
