Personally I would've chosen Milla instead of Jane March - Milla is much, much better looking. A lost opportunity

She's beautiful alright - but in the documentary, Annaud explains that March just had a striking resemblance to the 15 year old Duras that no other actress had. Besides, Milla was too tall at 5'9" to play a tiny 15 year old French school girl.

I think Jane is more suitable because she looks young enough and not looking that sophisticated. Right choice for this legend!!

Jane March was perfect for this role. Although Milla is indeed a very striking and attractive young woman.

She auditioned for director Jean-Jacques Annaud for the role of The Girl in 'The Lover' but was eventually beat out by Jane March.
