stereotyping by "race" vs stereotyping by "culture"
hey guys
i wanted to ask everyone if they think racism includes the stereotypes of cultures
for example:
stereotyping by "race" or "racism" is making assumptions towards a person based on the classifcation they were born under (genetic)...such as "blacks are inferior to whites in terms of intelligence" or "asians have small p's"
stereotyping by "culture" revolves more around making assumptions based on the environment a person was born into, but independent of who they are genetically, meaning those characteristics are created by personal choice/experience generally resulting from the social norms around them...an example would be assuming a chinese person in china eats rice everyday or a young black american you meet in a big city likes hip hop
it's like the difference of "nature vs nurture"
would you guys say the latter is more acceptable on the p.c. scale? given "culture" is not scientifically something ingrained into someone and is theoretically something they can change about themselves at any point in their lives
