ha! Yeah sorry my info was a bit lame. Tazo is right. There are lots more things to consider, ie replacing the lamp bulbs etc.

The humming from the fans mainly become noticeable during long running marathons. so look for a projector with a quiet db rating.

You can still get decent LCDs for under 700 bucks during sale weekends.

I believe LCDs have the longest lifespan out of any HD device.

btw I had an Optoma which is a great brand. I had it ceiling mounted and it produced a great 115" screen which guests LOVED.

But I did buy an LCD to replace it since I wanted the convenience of watching with lights on.
