AVS is by far the best site for video and to a lesser extent audio questions and user comments and advice, here's link to the under $3,000 projector forum:
Digital Projectors - Under $3,000 USD MSRP - AVS Forum. I'm Roger Lococco over there, if anyone cares.

as the other posters above have noted, the replacement bulbs are rated for about 2-3000 hours, and will cost you around 300-400 bucks or more, depending on the model of projector. Bulbs can and do fail prematurely and explode inside, damaging the DLP color wheel and other interior components. Modern projectors like the Optoma HD80 can output a great picture, but projectors are a bit of a pain to own. The good news is long lasting LED and laser light sources are coming, and will get rid of those pesky bulbs for good.
For enjoying sports and movies, 32" is way too small, 37" is the absolute minimum, 40", 42", 46'' and 47''s are better, you can get 46'' and 47''s for around 1500.
