Ive never heard that rule before..well, I was aware of the "N" word, obviously, but it isnt one I would use under any circumstances for any reason..
ive been to OK and TX a lot, but, up here, the term "red neck" has no where NEAR the connotation of the "N" word, and can hardly be compared.
i refer to redneck like - hick, hillbilly, mullet wearing, gun toting, squirrel eating redneck...
if you watch the humor of jeff foxworthy " you know your a redneck when.."
and many others..its not really a north/south thing, at least to the person you talked to.
