It would be interesting to see what happens around the world, since the Chinese are dominating the gold medals. But I think at least in the US it's unlikely. Here, the press is focused on just two things: Michael Phelps, and the young age of the Chinese women's (girl's?) gymnastics team. They are not trying to turn any Chinese athlete into a popular figure over here.
