There is a history of Asians immigrating to Latin America- not for Spain. Don't tell me that it's just culture because it is very commonly known how racist they can get. During televised soccer games, people commonly throw bananas and make gorilla noises when a black players comes on the field. Anyone can youtube this and see for themselves. ESPN even did a special on it.

I don't care what culture you are from, that's plain racist and wrong. Just because it is accepted in a culture does not make it not appropriate. It is the culture itself that is backward and needs to understand the global community more.

While I can understand that we can't judge another culture's actions through the lens of our own, you are letting your own Latin American ethnocentrism color your own view on it. The point is, it's not ok to do that in many other parts of the world and these kind of gestures have been used in conjunction with violence, inequality and discrimination.

I am not trying to be overly PC. For example, if it was commonly ok to say the N-word in another country, would that excuse them from saying it to a person from the States? Or what if I went to an Arab country and repeatedly broke one of their cultural faux-pas's? Shaking hands or handing over an item with one's left hand is an insult. Obviously, if I was already informed that it is not appropriate and still kept doing it, I would be exhibiting ASSHOLE behavior.

Sorry, but if someone on the street starting mocking me with some slanty eyed chink gesture, then I'd probably want to beat the shit out of them. I've been personally threatened with a baseball bat while chinky gestures have been made.

Spain has already been told that it's not appropriate. They are grown adults and are ambassadors to their countries. Basically, they should know better and grow the fuck up.
So, HOW DID THE SPANISH THREAD GET PULLED INTO THE LATIN AMERICA THREAD?!!

This thread is supposed to be about LATIN AMERICA. Keep the SPAIN Theme in the Spanish thread, and the LATIN AMERICA thread in LATIN AMERICA. Pure and Simple. Latin America is NOT Spain, and Spain is NOT Latin America! The two are WORLD'S APART! This is yet ANOTHER example of what the people abroad are talking about! The Latin Americans are NOT Spanish, and conversely the Spanish are NOT Latin Americans! All of Latin America has a major angst AGAINST Spain PRECISELY because of the Spanish ravaging of America, PRECISELY because of Spain's support and importation of slavery, PRECISELY because of Colonial rule! Or didn't you know about Simon Bolivar, El Libertador, who had thousands of whites, criollos, blacks, mullatos, mestizos, indigenous, filipinos fighting for him against the Vice Royalties of Spain? This is what we mean when we talk about imposing your own world view on other peoples. When latin americans go to Spain and get discriminated for being "Sudaca", I wouldn't consider them as included WITH Spain. Latin Americans in general chafe when they get lumped with the Spaniards.

Spain has it's own problems, for sure, but that stays in the Spanish thread. Latin America is a whole other entity, world, and culture. And no, I never said that there was NO discrimination, I said that Latinos as a whole are far more INCLUSIVE than the anglosphere! What's with all the assumptions going on? Now you're putting your own assumptions out there, where the ASSUME is called Making an ASS out of U and ME.

As for Kaku, you've obviously never heard of the School of the Americas, the World Bank, and the IMF, and what they've done to Latin America. Do yourself a favor and remove your ignorance, if you're even up to doing that, and go read "The Open Veins of Latin America", by Eduardo Galeano, where you can read all about how the economic heads of the Anglosphere and Europe have raped, pillaged, looted, bribed, and all commited all kinds of skullduggery in Latin America and destroyed their economies in the process. Or go get "Confessions of an Economic Hitman", by John Perkins, a New York Times best seller, about how the US government sends out operatives to sabotage the Latin American economies. Or read "Bananas, How the United Fruit Company Shaped the World", by Peter Chapman, which talks about how this one company setup the Anglo, and later European corporate application of neo-capitalism outside their sphere's of influence, by using Latin America as their test bed. This is how these companies do business, and we wonder WHY a huge portion of Latin America is rabidly leftist, and anti american?!! Almost all of the evils of Globalization that people rant about today started with the Anglosphere's use of Latin America as the test bed for these vile policies. Hell, even a german businessman once said that the anglosphere's economic success depended on the 5th fleet. And that's from a Western country's own admission to the state of affairs.

Most of the Latin Americans know this, or else you wouldn't have Chavez, Morales, Lula, or even in so called "white" (which is subjective at best because they're all mixed) Latin countries, like Argentina's Kristina Fernandez, electing rabidly anti american presidents. Hell, go ask a friend of yours, if you have any, that's done time in the Peace Corps in Latin America. Anyone want to know why Latin America suddenly lurched to sign deals, establish relations, and get in bed with China in the last five years? Well, now you know why. The moment the USA and Europe decided to get into the Middle East, the Latin Americans said, "F--k Yeah! The goddamn gringos are OUT! Quick! Let's get our sovereignty back! Let's sign deals with China! They know our pain!" At least the Chinese declare non intervention and hands off policies. The Taiwanese and Japanese make loans with few stipulations. The Anglosphere doesn't. This is why I keep harping about why asians in general are respected down here. That's why a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) volunteer will usually have no problems even in the FARC controlled zones, or in northern Bolivia, as opposed to someone of another color. I know, it's sad, and that in itself is discrimination, but that's the result of several decades of vile, Western economic and international policies.

Oh, and I should add for the would be investors, the latinos are signing deals with Vietnam and India. Argentina came up to Uruguay to start a Vietnamese embassy.

Anyway, this stuff is VERY WELL documented. Hell, if you want to see this western corporate gunboat/coercion bullshit in action, just come down to Colombia, head to the south, southwest, and then follow the money trail up to the Cayman Islands, and then up to General Electric! It's THAT easy!

And back to the eye pull, I stand by what I've written. Oh, and one more thing, when I write about Latin America and Asians, I am observing Latin America's interaction with JUST asians, and vice versa. I never said there wasn't discrimination. I just haven't talked about the other "races" because I'm focusing my material on the interests of the forum, which is on the asian part. So, keep that in mind, and stop making assumptions. Besides, if I chose to lump in the other "races", I'd never get an essay done. You'd be forced to read a long ass book. And even then, it's subjective and like GB said, it's not black and white, because ESPECIALLY in Latin America, everybody, I mean EVERYBODY, by and large, is so freaking mixed it's not even funny.
