Oh, I don't know. I think it's perfectly relevant. It's the whole reason he brought it back -- to find out from everyone if they think anything's changed.
I think a lot of that article still holds true, perhaps to a lesser degree. I think people are far more sophisticated about the idea these days. 20 years later, people seem more aware of these issues. It would be interesting to see some quantifiable numbers on the subject as well as subjective thoughts from folks in the same areas the original article surveyed.
I'm willing to bet there has been a sizable trend toward equilibrium between AM/XF vs AF/XM couples in more progressive US cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. However, in most other cities, I doubt there has been very much change at all. In San Diego, for example, I don't feel as if there has been any real change in the ratio of AM/XF vs AF/XM couples during the past 10 years. This is purely my own subjective observation, but having lived in both San Diego and Seattle, there is an obvious gap in mentality on the subject of interracial dating given that both cities have very similar diversity.
