Lightbulb Reading group??

Ok so this is partially inspired by Dirty Hippie's post about there not being a section for discussing literature.

IRL I LOVE reading and I'm a member of a reading group and we meet once a month to discuss the book that has been set, it seemed perfect as I love reading and I also love meeting new people. Trouble is, the rest of the group all seem to love crime thrillers, urban fantasy, vampires etc. So every single book that has been set so far I've really not liked, to be fair though neither has the rest of the group.
The only reason I continue to go is because they are a really nice bunch of people and I enjoy our chats.

The nearest group to me that looks like it discusses books more to my liking is feckin' miles away which is what led me to the idea of an online reading group. If I'm member of two groups I'm bound to get at least one book to read that I enjoy. Plus I am interested in reading other genres and authors other than I am used to. I think with my current group though it's just been bad luck with the choices.

So my question is, do people think it is a good idea to set up a reading group here or not?

If so, has anyone got any suggestions of how it should be organised/how they would like it to be organised etc?

Or would folks prefer to just post examples of their favourite authors/books on a thread so people can look them up if they sound interesting?

I am def interested, Peachy. I used to belong to a book club as well. I am more motivated to read when I am involved with a group. We could start w a book of your suggestion and then plan to read a certain no. of pages and have a discussion once a wk? Just a thought. Great idea.

Bloody wonderful idea. I love reading. I tend to get lost in book stores. I am also a tad strange because i like to sniff books, especially really old ones.
I love the feel of good binding, and all the covers of books have their own history and future in others hands. Im fasinated by books. I think i have a small fetish, because i almost get off on a book containing old print! Oh my god, i seriously need my head looked at!

End of.

I actually have the same fetish as weird as that sounds. Smell of books old and new are wonderful. I even love the sound it makes when you turn the page. It's gotta be my #2 favorite sound after rain.

Only if I knew how to read...
