AznLover 28 and overDiscussions by members aged 28 and over.
I try to do a search on topics before I post, to avoid repetition, and while there has been "facial hair or no facial hair" discussions, what I'd like to post about is whether facial hair looks better on mature Asians. Here's sort of what I'm getting at...
The whole "facial hair or no facial hair" question probably is influenced by two things, one of which is the well known fact that Asians in general cannot grow full beards and moustaches - rather, like what I am attempting to grow for the past nine months, it is closer to a sparse Freddie Mercury-type moustache. Maybe once in a while, I can grow some chin hair, and of course, there is the occasional hair here and there on my face. But I can definitely not grow a beard and I don't know too many Asians who can. The second thing I think that influences people's perspectives on facial hair is whether a younger person should be sporting facial hear - there seems to me a perception that facial hair is for the more mature person - I could be wrong, but hey...
So...I am wondering for the men and women out there whether:
FOR THE MEN: If you can grow any amount of facial hair and if so, can you objectively say that it makes you look more manly and more mature. Do the women in your life like the facial hair? If you can't grow the facial hair, would you ever consider a facial hair transplant?
FOR THE WOMEN: Is facial hair suited to older Asian guys (say, 30+), making them look more mature and manly? Regardless of your overall views on facial hair, would you, say, give more credibility to an Asian university professor who sports a beard or does it not matter? What is your opinion on the fu-man-chu look? Should Asians have facial hair at all?
I'll start with my feedback - I can't really grow anything other than a moustache and some chin hair, but after nine months, and with lots of trimming, the moustache is starting to take form. I have heard people tell me I should count it a blessing not to be able to grow a beard due to the constant shaving/maintenance, and uncomfortableness in hot weather, but I wouldn't mind trying it if I could (which I can't anyway). I would not consider a facial hair transplant, since I'm not that desperate. In terms of my wife's view, she doesn't like facial hair period, but she does say that with the piddly moustache that I can grow, that I look a little more distinguished and mature...or look like a 70s porn star... At any rate, I still have the moustache , but will likely shave it off in the Fall, since one year of experimentation is enough.
Now, to see if I can get that hairy chest developed...
To answer your question, yes I can grow facial hair, I think I have a picture in my photo album with a 2 day growth and 3 day growth...
Two weeks and it's fairly heavy... I typically shave every 4th day, I like the stubble/shadow look on me... there have been complaints from the ladies about the "burn"
I also have chest hair, not a lot but noticeable, no hair on my back and butt! thank GOD!...
It seems there are ladies on this board that really like the more "feminine" looking Asian guy... I know there's a thread on this, I think the hairlessness is part of the attraction for them... (based on what I've read in this forum)
I don't know any ladies who actually like a hairy ass or butt... however, most of the ladies I've dated, who have not dated other asian's before often are attracted to a little hair - "more manly" as they say...
What do you think of your facial hair? Do you yourself think you can pull off a beard and make yourself look more distinguished? More mature? Have you tried growing a thick beard?

I grew a thick beard back in early 2000, after I quite my job and became a beach bum for 6 month, in Vancouver... (i did spend most of my time on the beach)
lol... I got a lot of "oh i didn't know asian's could grow a beard"...
I didn't trim it, I was truly going for the beach bum look, which I was living... so it wasn't kept neat and tidy... but i liked the look... It certainly wasn't a distinguished look by any stretch of the imagination...
I typically keep a shadow for a few days... I like the look, it's not a distinguished look as you're looking for, IMO it's more of an outdoor/weathered look... which I like, but the ladies may disagree...
It also fits well with my hair, it has a natural wave, so the combination works for me...

I guess if you take your name from Chewbacca, I shouldn't be surprised that you'd be able to sprout facial hair...
I've always thought David Suzuki was the only one who can grow facial hair - but then I look carefully and think, that's not actually a beird, but a really puffy goatee or something...still, I can't grow anything that full - at the most I may look like a cop...from The Blue Oyster...
My company actually had a rule against facial hair up until the 1990s or so, I think. Not sure if facial hair gives one more of an advantage in business or whether it's detrimental. I'll never personally find out, but when I ask my co-workers what they think of this moustache, the overwhelming diplomatic response is very telling...."I'm used to it."
On a side note...getting my hair cut is a pretty risky proposition. Because I have the typicall very thick bristle-like hair of most Asians, and since I keep my hair short, whenever I go to the barber and return, I always get "hair splinters" in my hands - my hair, in short amounts, is literally that thick, that it can puncture skin and is in essence, just like a splinter. Whereas, my brother-in law, who is Irish, has very soft, cotton-like hair stubs which can be used as filler for a pillow.

I've found a Corean Hair Salon in Richmond Hill, right on Yonge street, just south of the 407... does a great job with mine...
I've met David Suzuki, he lives on Kit's Beach (Water front, rather cliff side)... I use to live a block up from the beach... our dog use to play on the beach together and he also has a wave in his hair... his isn't well kept either...
First of all Jeremy, I'm totally into facials....oh, sorry, that's not what you were asking.
I don't like facial hair on men generally. I like the smooth look, and Asian men have the smoothness I like, like what Chewie was saying. I don't like a lot of hair on a man's body, but realize that men can't really control that. Luckily, my current bf has no hair on him and I like that very much. His passport pic has a mustache and he looks like a convict. LOL I'm glad he keeps himself clean shaven. When I've stayed with him over the weekend, he's gone the whole weekend without shaving which is okay, but I don't like the rugged look generally.
