I wouldn't mind to join or volunteer to such groups and contribute, but the challenge is to gather enough like-minded asians that are aware about issues surrounding the media and its representation of asians, and feels strongly enough to go out there to make a difference.
I think universities are a hotbed of intelligent, opinionated, open-minded asians. That's a good place to start. What people can do is arrange meetings and spread phamplets around the campus about asian-media awareness. They would meet on a regular basis to discuss issues, various ways on how to go about making a difference and then towards action to implement those ideas, as well as to socialise with each other.
And yes I believe that a true think tank can most definitely turn things around for the better
