Now I guess some of us here has seen the Failure To Launch movie.
I was told by a friend of mine that now there are still some men in their 30s and 40s that are still living with their parents.
Given my bouncing around jobs and other "bad bounces" in life, I am still living with my parents at 27, and I probably may have to deal with that for at least perhaps a few more years.
And there may be women are still living with their parents, but they may or may not outnumber men in that situation, given that the movie did underscore about men "failing to launch" rather than women.
For those of you who are now on your own, at what age did you move out from your parents?
Is failure to launch in real life more common than it looks these days?
it is more common for asians in 1st generation. It is difficult for us to get decent jobs. It will take 2nd or 3rd generation for launch to be successful.
Yeah, I've noticed that about more "Eastern" people. Being Irish (and 3rd generation) it's not something that was ever instilled in me, and most of my 2nd and 1st gen friends are pretty much the same way. It's funny because we really do value family, have almost stereotypical HUGE Cathloc families, and family parties that last for days for every birth, death, and marriage, yet there is not the emphasis on all living together in the same house.... or "compound"
LoL... I didn't really know what that movie was about and I went to it with a guy who... is 35, sucessful and... STILL LIVES WITH HIS PARENTS! He owns the house next door but chooses to live in his parents house. e says his mom had been really sick and he feels better there watching her. LoL I felt bad but, what can you do? I picked the movie and he'll probably never believe that I didn't do it on purpose.
Good thing though... He is finishing up some improvements on his house now and talking of moving into it.
There is large percentage of adults still live with their parents in Canada according to gov't stats. This generation is facing a great deal of economic hardship compare to their parents, the baby boomers.
Here in the San Francisco Area, many adults are still living with their parents at more advanced ages than previous generations because housing has gotten so ridiculously expensive. The average house here now costs about $750,000. There are even many adults who have moved out who move back in.
Likewise, you need a mortgage to buy a car these days. .
Wow, you're not kidding about that! It's absolutely ridiculous how inflation has destroyed our ability to live freely and comfortably.
I really feel sorry for young people starting out life these days.
