i was talking to a single male friend(30yo) of mine yesterday and while he was going on about analogies that compare women to buying a new or used car, or comparing their value to the utility value of an appliance, something clicked in me. i think i just got tired of hearing about male/female dynamics, relationships and all that other crap. in fact, the subject was getting quite annoying so i cut him off and this is what happened...
ME: Do you know what our problem is? HIM: What's our problem? ME: Our problem is that we'd settle for a "7" if she could only make us feel like we were "10"s. HIM: Why's that a problem? ME: Because we're too smart to fall for bullshit.
Interesting, Risky. This kind of reminds me of a conversation I was having with one of the Chemistry girls at school the other day (Chem and Physics share a student area.) Well, I was saying something about how one of my professors is so hot, and if I were single, it would be a bad thing that I take his class. She said "Speaking of that, why the hell is he still single? He's good looking, funny, an absolute genius, dresses better than any other straight guy I've ever seen, and he's one of the nicest people I've ever met."
When she mentioned that, I thought back on some of the most intelligent guys I have known over the years, the ones who were definitely relationship material (if not for me, for somebody) and each and every one of them, a total catch. The commonality I found was that if they weren't workaholics, too busy in their labs to form lasting relationships, they were too picky, could not "fall for bullshit" as you put it. There are probably more guys like this around than most people think.
Bergie, you're absolutely right. There are just as many ladies who fall into this category. I wasn't thinking of that at the time, but, yes, you are right.
TB, don't even go there! My hot professor CANNOT be gay!!! NOOOOO!!!!
I think with today's gender dynamics, I don't think marriage is designed for men with actual nuts anymore. In a lot of the Gen X marriages I know of now - the man traded his nuts in along with half his net worth in order to become legally servile to a self-entitling, self-absorbed woman. Probably 1/2 of whom will leave his azz broke within 10 years anyways... <== Marriage, Y2K American-style!
It depends on the people, Darklite. Maybe I have a little too much faith in humanity for my own good, but I think that there are still a lot of good people in this world who will not ruin the person they marry, and that in those cases, marriage is a great thing. Obviously, I do not think it is for everybody, and totally respect other people's views on whether or not it's for them. However, as a married person who has no intention of being one of those self-entitled, self-absorbed morons, I do have some degree of faith in marriage. It's worked out well for me. Obviously, I can't speak for that as well as some people on this site can since I've only been married two years (well, two year anniversary is Monday) but I can say with certainty that Thak and I are both very happy with our choice, and I do believe others could be equally happy given the right person.
I'd like to think that people like myself (who are older than 24 or 25) are still single because we don't want to settle. Risky is right on about the "7" because sometimes, you start to think well, they aren't "that" bad. After a while though, you realize you sold yourself on bullshit and woke up.
What's interesting about the "7" or whatever rating you give people is that it can change. It might be a "7" when you first meet but maybe as you get to know one another and a friendship gets established, it can shoot up higher. Or that's what I've found in my singleness.

^^^ SG, of course there are always exceptions. Remember, you are not the norm though. You have an EXCEPTIONALLY, freakishly high IQ. And most women in here are not "the norm" either, which we
