I remember my parents were the first in the neighbourhood in Corea to have a phone...
I recall receiving calls for our neighbours and running down the street to get them... lol...
I remember not having running water, using an outhouse and heating our house with coal under the floors...
How about going Trick Or Treating in large groups of kids with the parents lagging behind and EVERYONE having something to hand out that didn't include poison or razor blades
School dances where the kids actually danced
Making "tents" with chairs and blankets and having "campouts" with friends on a school night
building a tree house
being able to play unsupervised on your street with neighbor kids
tire swings!
being able to accompany friends and family members all the way to the hangerbay at the airport and being able to meet them as soon as they came off the plane with hugs and kisses
TC!!! I was just talking about some of this with a friend tonight. I feel so fortunate to have so many good memories from my childhood, and that the not so good ones have faded somewhat.
Oh man, I remember that stuff... Those were some very good times, and I miss it a lot. Lucky for Erin, she gets all that stuff when she goes to visit my parents. Things haven't changed much back home. She loves it, and I'm happy she will have these memories, too. Of course, it sort of makes moving up here even more bittersweet. Had we just stayed on the farm, she would know all these things as normal, and not just a rare treat....
