Asian-Americans in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia!
Just curious to see if there are any other asian-americans around these parts. I have lived here for a few years now and have met a few other AA's that are mostly Thai-Americans who have come back to live here forever.
If you're curious as to what the dating scene is like here, it's pretty good if you speak some Thai. If you don't speak Thai it's more difficult but there are still plenty of gorgeous available women around. It's certainly harder to meet quality without a certain level of cultural/language immersion though. I personally wouldn't date girls that are too attracted to the foreigner scene.
I guess i'm one of the few AA guys around here who doesn't feel any particular attraction bias for a particular race so let's discuss Asian women for a change?
Thais also come in all shapes and varieties as there have been lots of intermixing with various races over the centuries. Some Thai women look very NE Asian with tall slender pale complexioned fair looks while some look very SE Asia with tan golden skin and curvier bodies. Some Thais even look almost latina and there are quite a few mixed white/asian Thai women out there.
I find Thai women to be fairly gentle and easy to get along with. Thais are mostly good natured and happy people. These are all generalizations but they are definite cultural attributes that I find to be true most of the time. Thais can also be a lot less conservative and uptight about sex, gender, and personal relationships than your typical Chinese influenced NE Asian culture.
As an asian-american it's very easy to completely immerse yourself into this culture. If you speak Thai to any passable degree then you will nearly always be regarded as a Thai. The culture in itself is already familiar to lots of us that have SE Asian friends so there's no culture shock there.
If you get the chance..visit Thailand sometime it's a beautiful place with some beautiful people.
Most of the stories I hear about Thailand are from my Truck Drivers that venture over there for their vacations. Not too many stories other than about cheap booze and cheap women. I don't mean to be offend anyone, but that's pretty much what they tell me about. They do tell me that Thailand has some beautiful beaches and some beautiful women. I do want to visit Thailand one of these days, but not this year. I'm planning on visiting Vietnam or Hong Kong in October.

Haha no offense taken. Thailand is well known for that type of thing. Yes, there are well lit "red light" districts where you have punters from all over the world coming to scratch their particular itch. That's the seedy stereotypical side of Thailand. The other side is that it's a quickly developing asian country that has all the modern amenities you'd find in the U.S. and a fairly advanced standard of living and a trendy nightlife scene.
I can also pay less than $75 and fly 45 minutes and be relaxing on a pristine white sanded beach over a weekend. There are tons of things to do around here.
Also the women i'm talking about are the normal everyday ones that you meet and they are wonderful.
there is so much more to thailand than those hooker places. i stayed there for two years after my graduation from college. i didn't speak any thai but thankfuly the friends i met there spoke english quite well. thai local women are extremely beautiful also the mixed raced luk krungs. definitely not hookerish.

Finally ! someone who knows what the score is. The media is generally ignorant of Thailand in general. They always focus on nasty street hookers from the poorest hick regions of Thailand. There are some truly beautiful women here.
it seems like east asians always dominate the hot asian girl discussions. another overlooked place is manila. everyone thinks all the girls here are maids that love white guys. there is a certain truth to those generalizations though just like the hookers in thailand but it's definitely not true for all.
i remember my first touristy visit in college to bangkok i didn't see that many beautiful women but when i lived there after graduation and was taken out by friends i saw the truth!

I'd be interested in knowing more about the Phillipines. It seems like a rather interesting place that shares eastern/western heritage. The women i've met there have been pretty cute and they do look different from Thai women.
1. Do you feel being AMERICAN gives you an edge w/ Thai girls (or at least some Thai girls) than say, a guy from Japan or Korea?
2. Do you feel Thai women (and by that I mean those who are into the foreigner scene) regard Asian-Americans as being "less desireable" or "more desireable" than a WM expat?

No, the biggest expat population in Thailand is actually Japanese. Japanese/Thai relationships are fairly common. The girls are very into pan-asian pop stars like Rain or Jay Chou so if you're from the major NE Asian countries with these stars they dig you. Actually sometimes I think being American is a bit of a drawback. It's hard for some of them to comprehend that Asians can be born and raised in America so they think i'm bullshitting. It would be easier if I just told them I was Japanese, Taiwanese, or Korean.
