"Do Aussies have musically diverse tastes?" A music outsourcing thread
I've noticed some decent Filipino musicians who could not make it big here perform in Australia instead and strike better luck. It's not that they're incompetent, but here, a solid majority listen to inferior revivals, cliche love songs, waterlogged alternative pop, or novelty songs.
A Filipino performer mentioned that he plays blues and was labelled a guitar hero in an Australian city (which he didn't mention). Pepe Smith, an old Rock and Roll performer just recently had some gigs in Sydney I think. Imelda Marcos, the dreaded steel butterfly, sang opera some five years ago also in a Sydney Opera House.
Anyways, an online guitar teacher mentioned that many axe legends today do not necessarily achieve fame in their own hometown. Yngwie Malmsteen isn't that big in his motherland Sweden, but he is big in Japan. And so is Mr. Big (I'll bam you in the noggin if you don't know them).
