The Ashes

Actually, do Australian Asians even watch cricket? The first Test at the Gabba is turning out to be a horribly one-sided affair. Someone needs to kidnap Glenn McGrath.

A few of my asian mates are really obsessed by it.

Personally I find the whole rivalry a big turn off, I think the Australian cricket team and fans lack a lot of sportsmanship. Actually I haven't watched any competitive sport lately. Australia has a big sporting culture, and the whole "must win at all cost" mentality is a big turn off for me.

I am disgusted by England. They'd need a miracle to even play for a draw now. The Australian public is so fired up that they do not just aim to beat the Pommies; they want to humiliate them and grind them into the dust.

I don't know what the England selectors were thinking when Steve Harmison was picked over Monty Panesar.

It was a bad toss for Flintoff to lose and England seemed horribly underprepared. Their own damn fault for not playing more first class matches as preparation for the real thing.

Billy Bowden is a joke. He doesn't deserve to be an umpire.

Anyway, I'm not going to make any rash predictions that the poms are going to go down 5-zip or anything like that because anything can happen.

England traditionally win the Sydney Test that start's on New Year's Day when the Ashes are already lost, by the way.

There's the second Test at Adelaide for the English to redeem themselves.

The batting partnership between KP and Paul Collingwood told us that there is still a pulse in an English innings after all.

I am not scared for the English batting order. They have world class batsmen capable of striking fears into the hearts of any bowlers on a good day. What I fear is the toothlessness of their bowling attack. Steve Harmison was disappointingly expensive. We can argue that the wicket at Brisbane isn't conducive for spin which'd make bringing in Monty Panesar largely a moot point. But he is still a liability.

Flintoff needs to get a good batting average. He seems to be bowled out for either a duck or single digit scores too often in recent months. If the top and middle order do not play their part, we cannot expect too much of the tail end to provide any much of a resistance.

Xenzu, I am supporting England, btw. Can't stand Aussie arrogance. Besides, you blokes are like the Chelsea of Test and ODI cricket - the side everyone else loves to hate.

I love reading the anguished post-mortems in the English cricket press after a heavy defeat.

There is talk that England should be allowed to field 22 players against the Aussies' 11 in the Perth Test just to make a game of it. LOL

^ You're telling me! I spent that morning of the Fifth Day hiking up a mountain in northern NSW and at the top I turned on my radio to hear that the poms were 108 runs in the 2nd innings with 7 wickets down. LOL

So, did anyone happen to watch Adam Gilchrist's innings today (Perth, Day Three)?

Guess where the Ashes are going, lads.

Have you all heard the news that the Aussies have given Ian Bell a new nickname - The Shermanator - because he's a ginger nerd and he wets himself under pressure. LOL!

That's almost as good as the one Andy Caddick had to bear - FA Cup-head (on account of his pointy chin and enormous ears).

Doesn't anyone want to talk about cricket any more?
