what a great thread. I'll be traveling to Sydney in September for 2-3 weeks by myself as a graduation present before I serve my new overlords of corporate america for the rest of my life. I havn't planned anything as far as local destinations go or which hotel to stay at. I rather not sign up for a group tour because it wouldn't be fun. I just want to have a good time. Any recommendations?

You need to mention what you like to do: hiking, surfing, drinking, party drugs?
Basically I'll do anything if its fun. I like to people watch, I buy lots of music, hangout a lot with friends, I'll go to your occasional art gallery/museum, bars, meeting new people, checking out the local scene, and I'll spend lots of money on great food Hm.. if you've seen Shark vs Eagle or Flight of the conchords than that should sum up my personality minus the jerk persona.
I'm thinking about heading to Australia and New Zealand in late summer or fall and I hope to spend an extended period of time in Sydney and Melbourne. Can anyone give me some advice on what to see and do in Oz, not just in Syd or Mel?
Also, is there a good site that can help me find a short-term rental (weekly/monthly)? I'll be traveling alone, only issue is that I use a wheelchair to get around, but that hasn't stopped me from going anywhere. Just need to find an apartment/studio/hostel/hotel that my wheelchair can squeeze through, and which hopefully has an elevator. Although hotels are kind of expensive for longer stays. Any help would be appreciated!
Perhaps we can get together and grab a drink or bite to eat, if and when I get there. Please PM me or shoot me an email. Thanks mates!!!!
This is a little bit about transport. This site is pretty good at promoting some areas of Victoria that a lot of travellers don't consider. Have a bit of hunt on that. As for the accommodation, almost all venues accessed by the general public need to be wheelchair accessible by law. However, the dickheads who do said designing and set the guidelines for adequate access have never attempted to navigate even their office in a wheelchair. So, if I were you, I'd network with others who have physically navigated the hotels/hostels you're considering.
