Japan and the past

I want to share what I sincerely believe with the guys and girls here. This was written on another thread here but it was a thread that had little to do with this issue and this issue is so important to me...I had to kind of recycle it here.

Even though I had nothing to do with bayonetting pregnant women and infants(and other horrors), we (the new Japanese offsprings) have to feel deep remorse or the healing will not begin on both sides...Same thing with black and white issues.

If the grace of the children of horror finds a moment to let reconcile the past with children of the aggressor.....Healing begins.

In turn, I cannot put up a shield by saying....I didn't kill all those people....That is not the point. Reconciliation is not about who is at fault. It is about healing and moving on.

In my life I was surprised to find that many Japanese youth share this with me. And as it is with many white folks.....many Japanese are clueless about their responsibility as an offspring. I hope I convey this to as many Japanese (and the children of the oppressed past) people as possible before I move on to the next world. We got to do something and disarm the beast of hate. Or it is going to keep happening over and over.

As we benefit from the actions of our ancestors....We also have to clean up after them as well.

I have experienced open hostilities from chinese folks in my part of the coast because I'm Japanese.I don't think most of these were caused by my actions. I've been told the same from other Japanese. A friend in SF had said that many chinese women are very nasty to them at checkout counters and such.....Koreans don't seem to do that. Most koreans I have met have good intentions even the older ones that have experienced the occupation first hand...

My family has strong ties to china. I love china and it's ancient achievements. (and some of the recent achievements..They might actually pull this off...)

I dream of a day when hate is no longer used as social manipulation tool....

(sort of like an open-minded US). That's enough for me. I know my father holds resentment towards Japan as a nation, but on an individual level, if he met a Japanese man, he'd treat him just like any other person....with courtesy and a few socially inappropriate jokes that would make even a dead man blush.
