AznLover EuropeDiscussions about living, working, studying, visiting, or playing in Europe.
I am currently studying in south of france called Montpellier, if any ladies live around there, hit me up. ALso I am planning on visiting those nordic countries, poland and germany at the end of July. If anybody lives around there give me a holla.
Yeah I need to get in the program. But I shit you not, almost no one speaks English in south of France, it gets worse as you move away from Paris. My French is rudimentary.I am barely surviving here with my bare minimum French skills. It will be nice if somebody can show me around. Ps. one thing, people in South of France don't like making eye contact. Yes men are aggressive and I am not. In general Montpellier is a laid back area and it's very touristy town. Did I mention? women here are stunning. I've never seen this many beautiful and stylish women in my entire life. But making friends or making casual acquaintances can be difficult.
Get your French better ASAP. The life will be easier for you as well.
Ways to get friends:
-join an international student club
-put a note on a bulletin board/internet about an English-French language exchange
-find a local expat group online and meet them.
Don't be shy. French women are used to having men all around them and treat women well...
Yeah in Nice and Monte Carlo, English is the common language, but not here, it seems like Montpellier is more of a vocational spot for French locals. Tomorrow I am going to a cafe and start asking females " est-que vous voudrias prendre un cafe avec moi?"
Alright time for a field report. After a month of stay in South of France, I have to tell you that French people are the nicest and most well mannered people I've ever met. At least they are nice to me. I don't know about the Parisians though since I've never been to Paris. As far as dating is concerned, it's very open here. There is a lot of interracial couples and people don't care who you date. There is lot of WM/BW couples here and vice versa. In fact this is the country of romance and as proved here love has no boundary. France in general is a very open society and seems like the racial boundary is very blurred. I lived in Seattle for 10 years and I have to tell you that minorities seem to be a lot better integrated here. People always talk about French people having problems with Muslims and African immigrants but I don't see that as a big problem here. Another thing, just like in America, French men love Asian girls. They do think that Asian women are very exotic. I don't know how Asian men are viewed here because Asian population is rare and unfortunately most Asian men I see are street vendors and involved in some sort of Asian restaurant business. The only Asians they are well informed of are Chinese and Japanese. Sadly, most French people don't know much about Koreans. Overall, I give a lot of respect to the French people for the fact that they do embrace all cultures and take a curiosity to get to know them where as in America, ghetto images and negative stereotypes always undermine one's ethnicity. Yes as you've heard of, French people are very cultured. There is always some sort of ethnic cultural festival going on here. I love France and one day I am hoping to settle here.
I'm an Asian-French male who has been living in France for almost 30 years. I've been living in Paris for almost 25 years.
It's nice to have an input from an Asian American about France. I'm glad that people are very nice to you in the South of France. Here in Paris, people are quite different, the Parisians can be very rude and snobbish.
If you wanna know more about France, feel free to ask me. I would be delighted to give you some tips.
Hey Min, I am in Montpellier. Life here is pretty laid back and enjoyable. The summer weather in Montpellier is very beautiful and the women are gorgeous here. The beach here is like a paradise. I don't know if you can find any better looking women in other places. I hope you include Montpellier in your next vacation package.
So far, I've been to Strasbourg, Carcasson, Nimes, Arvignion, and Lyon. People in those places have been extremely nice to me. I am pretty sure it's not always the fact that French people are generally nice. Don't get me wrong I try to behave myself in the best manner here. Apparently it seems like my other American buddies don't think that way. They always complain about how suck French people are. They do act very obnoxious time to time. But they are all good folks. After all, Americans don't have a bad reputation at all here. Everyone gets along and treated pretty fine. The group that has a little negative reputation here are the Spanish folks. We do have a shit load of American students here (in fact, any European countries you go to) but nothing comparable to the number of Spanish students (yes from Spain) present here. They have their own dormitory and school set up here. Despite the fact that they are very friendly and down to earth, they are loud and obnoxious as fuck. Holy shit.... I am better off learning Spanish than French here. And one interesting thing about the South of France is that a lot of French people speak Spanish very well. I don't know why many are still reluctant to learn English. And believe me, people who give me that looks are the Spanish folks not the French. But I have to tell you that it's always been a positive stare.
I definitely don't see any significantly monumental work in France. Ps. I don't see any noticeable difference between French architecture and Roman architecture. If you want to see some monumental work with exception of Paris, I think Italy is better off. I personally think that all the French towns are the same and somewhat boring. Any town you go to, there is always one or two sites to check out and then there is a bunch of shops and restaurants to empty your wallet at. I don't know why there is always a Macdonald's across from every god damn train station in France. In fact, it's very cliche and all the French towns are very touristy. It seems like every city has god damn same shops selling same stuff which reminds me of the "shopping mall" of America. Obviously, I didn't come to France to check out god damn 2nd class ancient architecture or buy god damn expensive clothes and perfume. Resources are obviously more abundant and cheaper in America. I was simply in love with the culture and people that are passionate in fashion, jazz, romance and yes that curiosity! I already fell in love with France and I hate to go back to Seattle next month.
