It's interesting but I think people read too much into what people think of Asian men in these polls. The Japanese probably appeal to the aesthetic sensibilities of French culture. The Japanese have a reputation as being refined, artistic, and classy people.
Asian cinema has a presence in France that's beyond a small niche and much of it is probably Japanese or Korean.

I think all this contributes to how some French view asians if you don't look into the deeper historical context of France's relationship with Asian nations.

The "love" relationship between France and Japan is quite an obvious one and it has been cultivating itself for quite a while now. The Japanese being obsessed with France's frilly rococo era and the french being obsessed with the whole japanese contemporary culture. It's hard to avoid the elements of Japan in todays France as much as it is difficult not to see the influence of the french in todays Japan (Tokyo Tower anyone?). Perhaps the good thing is however that this"love" is steadily spreading on to other European countries as well.

Having lived in France - I have to agree w/ minhhung's characterization of French sentiments regarding the Chinese and Viet immigrants in France.

It's also the reason why Asian-AMERICANS are more "popular" in certain parts of Europe (it's not so much the Asian part, but the combination of Asian + American).

Tho, I would take this Japanese males as "sexiest" w/ a grain of salt.

The type of guys we are talking about are the Ichiro-types.

Well even the same can be said of the US in that in those parts the fascination for Asians is really, really strong...

Maybe a few years back, there were some kind of prestige associated with the USA. But now, with Bush, the sinking dollar, the subprime crisis, the Iraq war and so on, the USA are not so prestigeous anymore.

I don't think that right now there are so many parts of Europe where Asian Americans are popular. Most Eurochicks prefer Asians who are born and bred in Europe or Asian Europeans because they share the same language, culture and mentality. I think you Asian American guys should give up the idea that you guys are popular with Eurochicks. There's nothing more ridiculous.

Same with Asians from Asia. A few years back, Asians from Asia were considered exotic but now with plenty of Asian immigrants from Asia in Europe, the Eurochicks are not impressed by the exoticiness of the Asians from Asia any more. They prefer Asian Europeans who are born and bred in Europe and who share their culture, language and customs.

Well, Im french and I can say that I have other friends who do love asians man, and not only japaneses ones ^^.
But sorry to say the problem is not only from french girl who loves asians boys but also from asians boys who don't like french girls ..
I don't know why but french who loves asians seems to meet only asians who love asians and asians who loves french seems also meet only french who prefer other ethnicity ... xDDD
