Spain has always seemed to be a mystery to me, I mean we always talk about France, Germany and other Nordic countries but we never really seem to touch up (no pun intended) on countries such as Spain or Italy, or other mediterranian countries.
So I was just wondering what Spain would be like (for the sake of argument) for an attractive and social Asian Man?
From what i've heard so far about Spain:
1. People are friendly but have close-knit groups.
2. People arent very use to Asians, so they woulden't know what to expect.
3. The Spanish can appear to be Racist but it can be just an attempt to familiarise themselves with something so different to them, so they use media sterotypes as a stepping stone before they get to know you individually.
4. The food's good.
5. The women are good looking.
6. People eat dinner quite late at night.
7. AM have a tough time there.
So, are these things that I have heard about Spain right or wrong? Please don't give me the "every person is different" speech because I wanna know, and I wanna know now

THHEEENNKKSS!!!
Never been there myself. But honestly their probably one of the most racist countries in Europe. I had a filipino chineese looking friend who went over there asnd was kicked out of a hostel because he was scratchign himself and the owner called it "china mans disease" and some woman at a newsstands told him they had no chineese magazines.
On top of that people who were African-American who went on an exchange from my college said they were treated liek crap because they thought they were North Africans.
Also check out the incident where the spaniards yelled racist comments at Black british soccer players and impersonated monkeys.
BTW The Spaniards oprresed filipinos for hundreds of years so yes they do "know" us very well.
Im assuming you thought of Spain because you like the dark skinned women and heared form your white friends it was pro..remember they are white and will get different reactions than you..
Nonetheless, Each person has their own experience anywhere they go.
I stayed in Barcelona for a week. It's very nice there and people are very laid back and friendly. But I got my camera stolen in the subway. It sucks because it had all the pictures of my eurotrip, Bastards,,, Anyway, Madrid is known as the capital of neo-nazi movement. You will encounter quite of skinheads there. So watch out.
I was there for 4 weeks on business, in 2002. Never had a problem, other than encountering the occasional pickpocket. I was based mostly in Tres Cantos and Madrid, but took day trips by myself to Segovia and Toledo. I don't speak Spanish very well, but managed to get around just fine.

I lived there for three years.
The food is great, the women and the men are good looking.
People have a long siesta during the daytime hours after they eat their largest meal of the day, when it is very hot.
They eat evening meal later and come out to walk with family or friends when the sun has gone down and it is much cooler.
Tapas bars with Sangria is wonderful!
You MUST go to a Finka (sp) party at least once!
They make YOU make the effort to speak the language to them, and then they will make communication easier for you. English is taught as a secondary language in Spain and most speak it well, but they expect you to speak to them in their mother tongue first.
They are striving to maintain their heritage, respect that and make the effort.
They will soon become your newest best friends!
There was a period of time when the Moors conquered Spain, and they are predominantly dark skinned for that reason.
The Spaniards certainly have their preferences for their children in dark skin tones, but they are a very warm, expressive people.

Well from what I've read and seen I would say Spain is probably 10 or 20 years behind Northern Europe in terms of race relations and political correctness. I don't think, generally, they like Black or North African migrants much; Asians are not far ahead in terms of acceptance either. Because they're probably more open in what they like or dislike I would think that you'll be more accepted as an individual (though I'm not certain and I could be totally wrong) compared to some Northern European countries. Why? Precisely because they don't have a liberal mentality as some other countries have where they nominally put the problems and praises of the Black community ahead of other ethnic comminities--which is a good thing BTW; it's just that you would think some other ethnic minorities don't exist there.
I once had an interesting conversation with a Spanish guy at college. He told me that because of their strict religious upbringing many are reluctant to sleep with their boyfriends and thus many are celibate until their marriage. It was not any surprise then that I found out that he preferred Swedish women (indeed he travelled to a Swedish university for a semester) because they're more likely to sleep out and Eastern Europeans because they had facial features he liked (sounds just like any other other Asian guy right?). Interestingly, he told me that Spanish women are open to dating Asian guys--not sure if I believe him though because he may only have said that to stroke an ego. Even if he meant it, of course, that would depend upon who you meet like any other girl in any country.
So, all in all, that's my assessment; If I was you I'd probably listen to the experiences of Asian guys who've been to France, Belgium, Germany and Scandinavia. They had good times there and didn't run into too many xenophobes and there was alot of things they did there. Surely they all can't be wrong?
