Smile European languages - levels of difficulty

Ok this discussion is for everyone, but I'm also interested to know the opinions of those who isn't european but have experiences travelling or living in europe, native speakers who speaks other european languages enough to make comparisons, or have taken night classes to learn a language or two.

Which european languages do you think are the easiest and hardest to learn?

So far a lot of folks say that German is quite hard, Russian are even harder and Finnish mind-bogglingly hard. Quite a few people seem to agree that Spanish and Italian are easier to learn, due to simpler grammatical structure and clearer diction? Obviously these are just generalised opinions, and one's background can influence how a person picks up a language. Someone who speaks Italian should have an easier time picking up French than say, someone who speaks Romanian or Dutch.

As for me, I spent more than half of my life speaking english but I find languages that uses glottal stops slightly more natural to pronounce due to my Indonesian background (although my Indonesian is crappy), and the fact the R's can be rolled sharply. Anyhoo, right now I'm thinking about taking either German, Italian or Spanish night classes for fun, if time and money permits

English (UK) is the easiest! Okay, that one aside...I'd say Spanish, Italian then German are the easier European languages.

I lived in Prague and the Czech language is extremely difficult. The number "four" is "ctyt" and fourteen is "ctrnact"

I tried over and over to pronounce these and man it was extremely difficult. They told me not to worry as it often takes kids years (usually by the age of 7-9) before they develop the tongue to pronounce ctyt and ctrnact...the children even have a tongue twister game using 4, 44, 444...

Russian is not that difficult regarding vocabulary but eventually regarding grammar (it's said that there are 1.000 exceptions) and pronunciation. I thought it's easy to learn.

I am always suprised (or actually not) that our bro'sis from the Netherlands speak perfect German while just a infinitesimal small group of Germans can speak Dutch.

For me Finnish/Hungarian sounds very difficult to learn. My father can speak some Hungarian. Else I'd say that grumpy Dardi has a very difficult mother tongue (->Gaelic) and Cymraeg is probably jawbreaker too.

I say moo to you!
