It's a pity that there are not many of us who condescend to post here ,anyway with my shaky and poor english,I just wondered if some of you would be interested in discussing about how west indian artists (no matter the island they come from or ethnicity) are well and badly thought of in USA, some artists such as Ricky Martin-Puerto rican- Gloria Estefan-Cuban-Wycleff Jean-Haitian- Shaggy-Jamaican- or more recently Rihanna-Barbadian- or Sean Paul -Jamaican- made a name for themselves in the musical field,so my question is : are you particularly sensitive to the salsa,reggae,soca...or else, repertoire or not ? .

All of the artists you mentioned are pretty successful in the U.S. So just by that, I'd guess their music is well thought of. I personally enjoy most it (I don’t care for Shaggy too much, isn't he from New York anyway?). But I might be a little biased since my mother is Jamaican and she introduced me to a lot of the older music from there.
I have been listening to a lot of reggaeton recently... have you heard of it? It is a really great mix of reggae, meringue/salsa and the artists sing/rap over the music in Spanish… Ivy Queen is my personal favorite
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

hummmm yes I have heard of reggaeton such as:
-Lorna "Papi Chulo"
-Daddy Yankee "Gasolina" (my favorite one)
-Speedy/Lumidee "Sientelo"
But personnally I am particularly fond of English-speaking dancehall (despite of the fact that women's 'choreography' on the music videos seem to be more "chaste" compared to the lyrics themselves).
By the way do you know who is Junko Kudo? She"s a Japanese dancer and she won the Dancehall Queen championships in Jamaica few years ago... /!\ Beware: some images (it is worth saying )these images can seriously upset the most puritan among us, think twice
Check it out----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6tBk...arch=dancehall

Jaw dropping is right, LOL. I have NEVER seen so much bootie shaking in such a short amount of time before. It was cool though... I wish I could do that.
I've heard of all of thoses singers before. Infact I bought a CD about a month ago that turned out to be a very good investment it's called Pal Barrio. You should check it out if you don't already have it.
As far as Dance Hall goes... I love Elephant man and Tami Chynn
omgoodness I am missing NY now!!! I used to be a Dancehall Junkie! Still love it I am very familiar with Junko's dance hall style and all of the artists mentioned!
My favorites are Capleton, Tanto Metro & Devante, Baby Cham, Elephant Man, TOK, VYBEZ CARTEL (they are too awesome ) Wayne Wonder, Beanie Man, Sean Paul, Lady Saw... I've listened to that music up until I understood everything that was being said and could even sing or "chant" along with them...
A lot of bashment type of reggae music!
Reggaeton is hot right now too! Daddy Yankee is doing his thing and I like Ivy Queen.
All of that is HOT in New York and I believe on the East Coast!
I love Caribbean music. I love soca , Danchall reggae , chutney all kinds of Caribbean music. I also love to dance. I'm kinda a local Dance Hall queen. Still trying to perfect my dutty wine.
Also i have to say it .. i'm kinda sick of people acting like Juko is the only Bashment girl in the world... there have been many better dancehall queens before and after her, she a really talented dancer yes, but to act like she's the ruler of messure for a Dancehall girl is silly I can think of like 5 or six dancers off the top of my head that are better. She gets most of her props becuase she is Asian and I think that's sad...becuase Junko herself well say the same thing and tell people to shop yet people will do it anyway.

I tried watching a queen of dancehall videos they a little too dirty for me to watch without cringing a bit..lol... but Junko does have talent...
I was surprised to find that there are a lot of Japanese dancehall artists some of my favorites are Minmi, Pushim, Ryo the Skywalker, Fireball, Boy-Ken...
As for Jamaican dancehall...I absolutely love TOK, Lady Saw, Ceclie, Lexxus, Elephant Man, SilverCat, Sean Paul, Baby Cham, Beenie Man, Mr Vegas, Ward 21, Rupee...
I really like Soca music as well...when ever I'm down it always cheers me up... Destra and SquareOne are quite good...
