Ok as of monday my flight will be booked, tickets and everything else i need will have been brought. Then i'm off to portugal! i just have a few questions, if anyone could help me that would be fantastic!!. Just some simple questions like, what are the people like??, best places to go??, how to stay out of trouble?? But the most important question i have is how safe is the country?? you see i'm going on my own, so how safe would it be for a female to travel on her own?? I'm kind of worried about this as you hear so many stories about females who travel alone. Any help would be great, and much appreciated.
Have fun and tell us all about your trip when you get back. The people are pretty friendly, and you should definitely check out Lisbon. There is essentially only one area for nightlife in Lisbon, so you should have no problems finding it once you get there. The low cost of living and Lisbon being the few 'undiscovered cities of Old Europe' should make it an interesting trip.
I also think you'll be fine as a female traveller, as long as you keep your wits about you. You can also tell me whether the rumors of young Portuguese people speaking very good English is true...it's been a long time since I went there last.
Wow dude, that was an old post! Were you bored or something?
I do not have any favorite singers... I have a few compilations featuring many singers. I am partial however to Fado sung by men "Fado de Coimbra". I still love "Fado de Lisboa" sung by women but when it is sung by men it seems sadder for some reason...
But my most favorite Fado is the one sung by real people in restaurants. Mr Laranjo ex-owner of "L'Étoile de L'Océan" used to organise evenings of Fado once every month. It was a lot of fun!! But he has sold the place and is not quite ready to do it again in his new restaurant... he will later but not now.
