I just dug this up and read the argument between the two. I don't understand why he couldn't see what she was trying to say.

I understand why she was upset... it's always insulting when something cherished in your culture is seen as a fad and she is just disgusted when men try to treat her as a stripper because she is a SOCA artists. It's their form of modern dance.. it's like propositioning a ballerina for sex. Because some people in the Japanese society have twisted dancehall with stripper routines.

I also had to laugh when the guy who posted the article was confusing West Indies for (West) India. He was talking about India and Chinese and Krishna... I was like, "Wtf?" Not the same thing buddy. LoL.

Wow, I think he is personally a very sweet guy. He really didn't seem to get her point at all. I understand that to some extent all cultures have done this but I do understand her point. I think she is saying that men already see the dance as sexual then you have people going to Okinawa saying that they are the same type of dancers (and there you can pay to get almost any type of sex. My personal experience.) There they will buy a dancer then come to her side of the world and expect the same it and it bothers her. I think she is right to feel bothered. Who wants to feel like a sex object without giving their permission.

I just think that she should have qualified it with " in my experience" or "some" and I don't think it would have gone this far.

i can understand why japanese guys think it's ok to offer girls money when all they have seen of bashment type of dancing is some girl bent over on all fours and some random guy is grinding into her from behind or some girl touching herself in the middle of the dancefloor. it's not right, but i can understand why it would happen when they don't know much about the culture. i know it's not all about dry sex moves and i don't want to offend anyone, but that's just my take on it.
