And it has died down immensely from its height in the early-mid 90's, so much so that now San Francisco's homicide rate is twice as high as Long Beach's, which makes its homicide rate about the same as New York's homicide rate. And again, I suspect that most of this beef stays in the ghettos, i.e. the North Long Beach area near Compton/South Central. Most of Long Beach is actually pretty safe.

This happened more often during the early-mid 90's. Now, such cases are generally rare in LA, compared to the vast majority of homicides in LA being Hispanic vs. Hispanic and Black vs. Black gang shootings.

And yet, I can bring up several cases of Asians getting shot at by blacks in San Francisco. Just a couple of months ago, a black kid shot a senior Chinese man to death when his other black friends tried to steal his car during a dispute over a vehicle collision. I don't know if they're gang members or not, but there are definitely a ton of black street gangs in San Francisco. Maybe these guys were from Sunnydale Mob (from the Sunnydale housing project in the Visitacion Valley) or something. I can also tell you tons of bloody rumbles between Asians vs. blacks + Mexicans in San Francisco, like the shit that happens at Lincoln or Wash House (high schools).

The point? It's not like this type of shit happens only in LA. It happens in most other parts of the US as well, because the racist white American society and its ideology necessitates that the white male racial elites of the US use what sociologists call "controlling images" in the media to establish "psychosocial dominance" over all non-white ethnic groups. Thus, the various ethnic minorities in the US will go at each other partly because of preconceived stereotypes of other ethnic minorities as learned from the media (movies, etc.). Thus, ethnic-tensions exist in most places in the US where there are large populations of both whites and non-whites.

Probably the best place in the US for an Asian to live in is Honolulu, Pearl City and other Asian-majority places in Hawaii. In Canada, Toronto and Vancouver come to mind and pretty much most major Canadian cities since they have large Chinese/Asian populations, as opposed to the US where Latinos and Blacks make up the majority of ethnic minorities.

What a load of BS and assumptions. It sounds to me like you're unnecessarily shittin' on LA and SoCal in general. Maybe you got this from some 40-50 year old white men/women from LA with a hidden racist agenda against minorities shittin' on LA and SoCal on sites like city-data forum or something. After all, whites are still a majority in the Bay (perhaps why they love San Francisco so much because of its whiteness) while in SoCal it seems like the Hispanics and Asians are taking over.

The fact is, because of rising prices for houses, a lot of gang members from LA are moving to San Bernardino, where the crime rate is (IIRC) rising (though Oakland and San Francisco's crime [especially homicide] rate have also been gradually rising since the year 2000). And again, a lot of the racial hate really only exists in the prisons and the street gangs. Besides, last I heard, it was the Hispanic gangsters hating on Blacks more than anyone else, because almost all Hispanic gangs in SoCal are Surenos, and most take their orders from the La Eme in prison which has allied itself with the Aryan Brotherhood white prison gang. So, we can see where the racist tendencies originate from. Additionally, the Chinese population, not to mention the Asian population, in San Bernardino is tiny compared to the Asian/Chinese population in LA, NYC, or SF, so I can't really see why the Surenos there would even give a damn about Chinese.

And once again, I have to stress that crime in general and homicides in particular have been gradually decreasing and dying down ever since 2002 when Bratton from NYPD came to LA to clean up the place of gangs and crime. So while a lot of this beef might have been hot 5 years ago, it has died down alot ever since. All of LA has seen dramatic decrease in crime and homicides in 2007, even Compton, dropping to early-1970's lows. I'm pretty sure San Francisco's homicide rate in 2007 is a lot higher than that of LA, given that LA's dropped to a 3 decade low, while SF's reached to a decade high. Alot of the gangs, though still existing, are pretty inactive due to a loss of leaders and major crackdowns by the police and the FBI in the early 2000's.

And yet again, there are ethnic tensions and general hate in other places in the US as well. In San Francisco, it seems like the Asians stand alone against the Mexicans and blacks, while the whites sit back and laugh. In LA, in prison (definitely) and among the gang scene on the streets, Asians are generally allied (even if tenuously) with the Blacks (they seem to have something against Koreans, though) against the Hispanics and whites; again, this does not represent general everyday civilian-to-civilian interactions, but just prisons and gangs/gang members, which actually makes up a small part of the population of most of the ethnic groups.

In NYC, there have definitely been a lot of cases where both blacks and whites (non-gangbanging, no criminal background, unlike the Eses in LA) randomly attack and beat up Asians, while the rest of the Asians just lower their heads down and pretend nothing happens; there are tons of anti-Asian hate in NYC, a while ago it was the Hot 97 Tsunami song, another while ago, it was blacks specifically calling young Chinese delivery boys into the hood only to murder them and get their money, then more recently it was groups of punk-ass racist whites going into Chinatown and randomnly beating up young and old people after hurling racial slurs at whole crowds of Asians. I remember some Chinese girl from NYC said that there are schools in NYC where Asians [especially the girls] are scared as hell to go into because whites and blacks there would randomly rape the Asian girls.

At least in Los Angeles, the Asians fought back fiercely; the eses there know what's up with the Asians. Even SF's Asians are doing far far better than NYC's Asians when it comes to fighting back. None of the shit that happens in NYC would get unnoticed here on the West Coast, Killafornia; be sure the Asian dudes here would knock the fuck out of them racist whites and blacks from NYC. TRG from North Long Beach, Oriental Boyz from South Central, and Wah Ching from Chinatown, El Monte and Rosemead would be shooting them on the spot if them racist whites and blacks from NYC ever went down to LA and did that racist/rape shit on Asians.

I couldn't agree more. Europeans don't know many stereotypes besides the martial arts, Bruce Lee and that Japan is advanced. But that makes it easier for AM's in a way. The Black hip hop culture has penetrated into Europe already.

I know as a fact a lot of people from Antwerp, Belgium are slightly xenophobic. Asians there really do have a stereotype of being 5ft tall and work in restaurants.

That being said, most people my age ~20ish will keep an open mind.

Europeans are not any less prejudiced in MY experience (com'on, people make fun of other Europeans ALL the friggin time. Everyone hates the German and French, and think the Spanish are all womanizers), but young people are on average definitely more open-minded.

I felt I got stared at a lot more when I was with my Northern European gf than anywhere else. Maybe it was the sharp contrast: me vs pale skin, blond hair blue eyes...but I think it was probably surprise and curiosity. Either way, it made me feel awkward half the time.

However, big cities like Paris, Brussels, etc, it was much much better.

So there you go. Locale matters!
