Lazying about on the beaches of Santa Catarina last month, located in the South of Brazil, I met a Korean guy by the name of "Mestre Kwak." He was a Korean immigrant who had taken over his father's Hapkido dojos in the South of Brazil and spent most of his time teaching martial arts to the locals. Sitting by the beaches drinking beer and eating crabs, we were joined by his Brazilian girlfriend and had a great time talking about life in South America.

Here's a snap of Santa Catarina, a hidden jewel of a region rapidly becoming discovered by tourists these days. Largely settled by Portuguese, Italians and Germans, it has some of the most pristine and stunning beaches in Brazil and is a favored destination for Argentineans, Paraguayans, and Brazilians during the summer months. It's also nearby the state of Parana, a state with a significant Japanese population and where I met some of the friendliest females south of Sao Paulo. If you're ever in the area, look him up.
