Ninety percent of the crew in "The Mummy 3" are Chinese, Rob Cohen, director of the movie said at a press release in Shanghai on Thursday.

This is the first time that his cast is meeting the media since they started shooting in July. Leading roles including Chinese action star Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh and Australian actor Luke Ford are all present at the meeting.

A friend of Jet Li, Rob Cohen, applauded Li's devotion in acting and said Chinese actors are becoming more and more international.

"We have a total of 2,200 people working here and only 180 are non-Chinese. All my Chinese staff has high professional ethics," Rob Cohen told reporters.

"I have done a lot of background information study on China and I think it is a great country," he noted.

With part of its settings in Xian in northwest China's Shaanxi province, "The Mummy 3" has draw great public attention as it not only involves renowned Chinese actors but also the Chinese culture.

Cohen is the director of Fast And The Furious,xXx with Vin Diesel, and Stealth with Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx, he's incapable of directing a good movie.
Cohen did do the Vanishing Son tv movies and series, though.
The plot is Brendan Fraser and his son eventually kick Jet's ass, how is this any different from Lethal Weapon 4.

interesting but i didnt know there were mummies in China. i am guessing thats where the story is supposed to take place. but hey i guess u can have fantasy movies anywhere.

as far as the movies he's done. I dont know but I liked xXx with Vin Diesel. Didnt see Fast & Furious, and ya Stealth sucked. But hey you cant expect perfection. He did Vanishing Son, so you gotta give him some props for portraying Asian males in a positive light.

Kind of expect that Brendan Fraser is the hero (of the mummy franchise) but hope u are wrong about his opponent being Jet Li. I hate seeing Jet Li as the bad guy, not only cause he usually does a bad job acting when he is the bad guy. But I do get sick of seeing him get cast as the antigonist in western made movies.

I don't know about mummies, but didn't China have those soldier statues? Like 1,000 in a tomb...all with unique facial features? Not sure if it's the same concept, but the soldier statues were there to protect the king in the afterlife I think? Same idea as when they bury things with pharoahs.

ya i supposed they could do something around that. cause its speculation right now what the tomb is really like inside the inner sanctums thats hasnt been opened yet.

But in all seriousness why is there a Mummy part 3 even being made?

While there might be a large Asian cast in this production, the important part is, are they all being cast as villains and reinforcing existing negative racial stereotypes?
