From a prior veteran to others whom have served or are presently serving - Thank You!
Whether you have ever served or not; Whether you believe in the past or present missions the US has or is presently participating in; Whether you know a veteran or current service member.....
Please take a moment to remember and reflect on the sacrifices these past and present veterans have made as have their families, regardless of their race, ethnicity etc..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wow is all I gotta say to this. She really does love AM's - http://proaznisalyingwh0re.blogspot.com/
Damn it, I never know what to say to this kind of stuff... I've been out a while and I'm still figuring out how to be a veteran, I guess.
But anyhow, a big thanks to all the citizens who haven't forgotten everyone who serves or served, and who do take the time to remember. It was an honor and my pleasure to serve for people like that.
To my fellow vets, and to my brothers and sisters who still serve, thank you for being kick-ass individuals and getting the job done, no matter what the job was. No matter how much some of us enjoy our rivalries, and I'm probably the worst about that, I know that without any one of us, things just wouldn't work. Each one is very important, and I thank you, every soldier, sailor, airman, marine, and coastie for holding up your end of the bargain every time. We all work for the same cause at the end of the day.
To Thaksin, my love, thank you for continuing to serve, and for putting our family first. Foremost, thank you for loving me even throughout my crazy veteran moments, and for being the best NCO to me when I was just a hapless young soldier.
To my buddies who are no longer with us, thank you for giving your lives for our country's cause, whether you believed in it or not. I'll never forget you.
Also appropriate for this thread, in honor of my beloved Corps of Engineers, my favorite poem:
A Salute to The Engineers
by Cpl Claude Albert Radley
Now the Lord of the Realm has glorified the Charge of the Light Brigade,
And the thin red line of the Infantry, when will their glory fade?
There are robust rhymes on the British Tar and classics on Musketeers,
But I shall sing, till your eardrums ring, of the Muddy Old Engineers.
Now it's all very fair to fly through the air, or humour a heavy gun,
Or ride in tanks through the broken ranks of the crushed and shattered Hun.
And its nice to think when the U-Boats sink of the glory that outlives the years,
But whoever heard an haunting word for the Muddy Old Engineers?
Now you musn't feel, when you read this spiel, that the sapper is a jealous knave,
That he joined the ranks for a vote of thanks in search of a hero's grave
No your mechanised cavalrys' quite alright and your Tommy has drained few peers,
But where in hell would the lot of them be, if it weren't for the Engineers,
Oh they look like tramps but they build your camps and sometimes lead the advance,
And they sweat red blood to bridge the flood to give you a fighting chance
Who stays behind when its getting hot, to blow up the roads in the rear?
Just tell your wife she owes your life to some Muddy Old Engineer,
Some dusty, crusty, croaking, joking Muddy Old Engineer.
No fancy crest is pinned to their chest, if you read what their cap badge says,
Why 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' is a queersome sort of praise,
But their modest claim to immortal fame has probably reached your ears,
The first to arrive, the last to leave, the Muddy Old Engineers,
The sweating, go getting, uproarious, glorious Muddy Old Engineers.
My own dad was in the Army and fought in Egypt. The stories he told me of the friends he lost was awful, and the pain of it all stayed in his eyes the whole time while he told me.
The men and women involved in war, just dont get enough credit. And those that fought for us to have a better life now get bad used by younger stupid arseholes and that makes me sick!
Rememberance day is there for a reason.. To pay tribute and honour those that fought for us to have this life we now live.. Without them we would be nothing!

That's absolutely disgusting! I cannot imagine why anyone would commit vandalism on memorials like that!!
In my hometown, there's a graffiti wall on one of the main roads, and people come and paint things on it whenever they want. Parts of it are quite beautiful, really. Well, when a local National Guardsman was killed in Iraq (the first KIA from our area) his sisters staked off a huge section of the wall, and painted a beautiful memorial to him on it. Well, not a month later, someone vandalized it. It was then that the a fraternity decided that they would watch over this soldier's memorial on the wall, that they would have someone check on it every single day, and if something happened to it, whether by vandalism or regular wear and tear, that they would fix it. I'm proud to say that one of the fraternity members who really pushed for this is a friend of mine from High School. His dad is retired Army, and his brother is a Marine, so he knows how important it is.
I wish more communities would pull together like that and guard the memorials (whether formal or informal) which people (or nations) make for troops. The ones who deface them are my personal definition of ungrateful bastards. What they are doing is completely unacceptable, and I think the communities they live in CAN make a huge difference for making it stop.

Indeed Nomad .. youre on the ball with that one! Its just a shame the government over here doesnt put more money and time into the care and upkeep of memorials.. as much as they like to think they care .. they bloody well dont!
Id have armed guards on standby if it were my choice! And id gladly shoot any little shits that dare take a swipe at the memorial i was looking after!
This country should do more to help, but they say theyre doing all they can! Bullshit!
Even the graveyards get it rough.. Which is a place i just love to visit day or night.. peaceful .. until the yobs get there and start trashing it all! Most churches are sealed up with wire windows and some even have toughend plastic over the windows because the youths find it fun to ruin the stained glass!
Some of these things have been here for countless years and yet in five mins it can all go!
I feel sick knowing that children here find fun in destroying memorials! Something should be done!
