Actually no those were the second and main wave of Chinese and Asian immigrants, and the lower class low wage workers I speak of. Before that, there were a trickle of Asians who arrived to do business with western countries. Of course like any place, no one usually have that much of a problem with a few foreigners who they probably dont think of as anything more then guests in their country. its just like Europe where some (east) Asians get such a great impression of it in terms of racism, because thats cause they dont think Asians are there to stay and if there are there isnt many of them, so its mainly quaint and interesting for the Europeans. But they are just as if not more racist against immigrants who they think are coming on mass to stay (plus they never had a tradition of being a nation of immigrants). Its the moment they realize there is a wave coming and they're there to stay thats when the racism kicks in, in full force.
Regardless, racism by whites against Asian in North America has nothing to do with the fact that a lot of the early immogrants came from the Southern part of China vs the North, as some believes. Anyone who believes that doesnt really understand racism. Furthermore anyone who would use Huang Xiaoming as a means to slag on a whole region worth of Chinese is just fucked up.
