For me I grew up as a little kid in Etobicoke on Dixon Rd, then moved to North York in a heavily Jewish populated area for junior high and high school. I also went to university downtown in a very male dominated field, and my field of work is also heavily male dominated as well. Amongst my friends and peer group and pretty well everybody I knew, I was the only Asian guy who had ever dated white girls, so it comes as a surprise to me that others actually do. Its not only me, I've gotten stares, resentment, and shabby treatment from mostly white people when I was with various girlfriends in public. Maybe things have changed in the very recent past since I don't really go to clubs or many social venues anymore so I just wouldn't notice. But I think perhaps I honestly shouldn't complain. When I think about it, I do receive attention from a fair number of white females, its just that I'm not interested in them. So really I guess there is a big difference between not receiving any attention from the opposite sex, and not receiving any attention from somebody whom you might be interested in. I still say though, that the AM/WF thing is and was a bit of a rarity.

All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

Hay... if you lived on Dixon... you must have gone to Kingsview...
I think you're probably 15 years younger than myself... The Central Etobicoke area was fairly white and black till about the mid 80's
I'm not saying the AM/WF is common, I realize it's still rare relative to the same race couple... but the AM/WF isn't all that strange either and it's not uncommon to see the pairing several times a day... I think I see more of the AM/WF couples in comparison to the AF/WM couples...

Like I said maybe it's the type of venue...
Today alone I counted four AM/WF couples at Scarborough Town Center and I saw one at T&T market. I'm always on the look out for them, and we always kind of nod to each other like a silent sorority lol
When I go to clubs (which is rarely these days) it's always on "Asian nights" and I see a plenty of Asian guys there grinding with non-Asian ladies.
AHA!!! That pinpoints it precisely. Scarborough Town Centre and T&T are very Asian specific areas, as are Asian theme nights at various clubs and venues. For me, I don't attend anything Asian themed particularly although I hang around at Pacific Mall and shop at T&T occasionally. Those places have higher concentrations of Asian people so its more likely to see AM/WF couples there. I usually hang around Queen St W for fun when I do get the chance to get out. I avoid Scarborough like the plague usually. For me, I want to be considered as a person first and as an Asian second which is not to say that there is anything wrong with my heritage, but it just doesn't seem right to me. It would be just the same for women I suppose to have men classify them according to what particular body parts they find interesting. To me, I would not want to be defined by superficial external characteristics but I honestly don't know if that is possible. Perhaps my expectations are too high....
Hey Chewie, its funny that you mention it, but I did go to Kingsview Public School when I was a kid, and then Dixon Grove as well. The area has changed a lot though. Apparently it is home to a rather prominent Somali community. I still like Etobicoke and I go there every once in a while to pick up Indian food and get the best Jamaican beef patties in town.

There were a lot less asian in Toronto back in 1974 when I emigrated here from Corea...
I came to Canada around the same time too.

Maybe it looks better but I heard of a shooting around the area on the news the other day. Its almost like if there's a crime story in Toronto on the news, its centered around that area.
