Do you think Canadian doctors are rude? I went to a walk-in clinic today, and the second time it happened that a doctor wouldn't even make an effort to shake my hand. Then this one asked questions of my personal life that are actually irrelevant to the issue that made me go to a clinic. When I left, again, no effort to shake my hand, she didn't look at me when I left... She was just buried in her papers. Maybe Canadian med schools skip the course of patient psychology and how to meet them. The thing is that you go to a doctor with your problems, you are vulnerable to them as you allow them to treat you and examine you.
If there are nice doctors in Toronto, I would love to have their names. Rather someone older (at least middle-aged) who is experienced.
errr yeah you went to a walk in clinic... these docs have to deal with unknown patients the whole day non-stop. Shaking hands? I heard that was actually not an etiquette when it comes to doctors since they are very concerned about getting germs. I just wave my hand unless the doc reaches out his hand first.
I have been there, but I don't know anything about who is nice and who is not. Can I just go to any health clinic and book a time?

In Finland and in Sweden doctors and polite enough to shake hands. And hands can be washed...
A colleague of mine gave me information about her family doctor, who is a Chinese gay male. But what if I take him and get all excited and horny when he examines me? I'd rather have a female doctor...

I'm with you, Nordic, on the female doctor thing. I am much more comfortable discussing my gyn health with a woman. It doesn't make sense to discuss those things with a man since he REALLY has no frame of reference, you know.
And if I don't like a doctor because of a lousy attitude, I have no problem seeing someone new. It is important for you to get a doctor that you see each time for illness ,etc. She will have a record of your family history, will probably recognize you when you come in, and you will be familiar with the office and the staff. It just makes for a more comfortable situation for you, the patient. I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but ask friends for a recommendation for a doctor.
