Toronto Public Transit Infrastructure

i was wondering what other Toronto folks thinks of the public transit infrastruture currently and the future plans.
http://www.cbc.ca/toronto/features/ttc-expansion/

as a life long driver public transit isnt that important to me. but ive been thinking about this in recent years. in general just as a citizen i think the future plans cant come too soon. it had been sorely needed.

every major city ive been to in the World makes Toronto's system look woefully inadequate as far as geographic coverage. one thing that is startlingly absent (and ive talked to a work colleague whos the biggest cheer leader i know for Singapore) is that Toronto doesnt have any train or subways service to the airport (as opposed to every major city i been to)

like in HK there were so many redundant systems and coverage now that u can get anywhere with bus or subways or street car. Tokyo and Osaka where i also lived in, also has great if very crowded subways systems for the cities. one thing they have that is great is "express" lines that skips the smaller stations. that i think would be great for the urban spawl that we have in North American cities especially Toronto. We have the Go train i guess for something similar but the problem with that is that it doesnt connect with any other lines really until Union station. so that greatly reduces its usefulness as a sort of express train.

Toronto public transit is like from the stone age. I cursed it for about two months since I got here. Ok, here we go, my complaining:

*cell phones don't work in subway. They haven't built GSM net in subway tunnels.
*when you buy a long-term pass, it is from month to month. You can't choose the date from which the ticket is valid until which date. It is always from the first to the last day of the month. I heard two Britons swear about it once too.
*You can only buy month passes certain days of the month.
*there are still no low-floor street cars. No mercy for the old or people with difficulties to walk.
*and of course the subway is not extensive enough for a city this size
*it is expensive to use public transit here, and prizes are going up. It practically encourages you to get yourself a car.

There.
