That ASShole gave the NYC homeless people a one way ticket to SF several years ago.
SF has nice weather, many parks (more than any other city in America, per square mile), a lot of charity, and a lot of people walking around to panhandel from. So why wouldn't you come here if you are a homeless person?
BTW, first of the month you will not see homeless people in SF. They are at City Hall collecting $300 that the city gives them.
And yes, I volunteer in the shelters for a while 90%+ of the homeless are not from SF. SF is a very wealthy city and has the second highest percentage of college graduates in America. These people are not the ones producing future homeless people.
Having lived across the bay from SF and living in the Bay area, I'd have to say I love SF!
Well hello there pretty lady!!! Damn I need to check into these forums more often before I miss all the hot chicks here. Wait what was the topic of this thread again?
Hahahaha anyway I moved to LA a year ago but yeah I grew up in Oakland (that's my hood). SF has the strongest community and history of Asians, esp. Chinese than any other North American city. However, don't certain parts of Canada have a larger per-capita population? Like isn't Vancouver aka Little Hong Kong? I've never been but that's what people tell me.
As for SF vs. LA liberals, well I used to be a super hippie radical activist in SF, organizing those anti-war parades that went on as Iraq was breaking out. Here are pics of when I got arrested protesting on the streets the first day of the war: Le's Site: Pictures: Iraq Protest
Now I'm all Mr.Apathetic (I didn't even vote recently), living and working in LA, just trying to focus on a documentary film career and I don't really give a shit about politics anymore except within the context of art and storytelling.
So much snow and cold and wet this winter, a milder climate is starting to look more appealing, perhaps even for half a year. The fog and rain and microclimates look appealing to me right now.
Although we discovered the pain of commuting via train into the city if we wanted to make it a later night.
What are rent/real estate prices like for San Mateo?

Haha...for the folks chained together in your pics...what happens if no notice is taken to their protest and they are sitting there all day and someone needs to go answer the call of nature? I hope they have a "keeper" with a key....
Happiness is a journey, not a destination. True love will withstand ignorant eyes...

Homelessness quite often is not a matter of choice, and for the ones who do choose to be homeless, their probability of being mentally disabled is quite high.

The San Francisco Chronicle (sfgate DOT com) has recently reported on median house prices in the Bay Area. From their February 14th article, the median price paid for Bay Area existing single-family homes was $585 thousand (USD) for the month of January. If you dig around their archives, you may find something more specific for San Mateo. On the other hand, I'd recommend the use of zillow DOT com check things out as well; apparently, zillow is reporting a median of $780 thousand for San Mateo county.
Good luck, if you decide to move from the Big Smoke ... although, truth be told, I miss Yonge & Eg, St. Clair West, Bloor West, Kensington, St. Lawrence, and Danforth East ... and, of course, the Hockey Hall of Fame ...
