Oh no, say it ain't so seany, say it ain't so.......... I'll have to work my special magic then.
Sorry, that's what The Independent's website says: sold out. It's not a very large venue, about 500 people. It's more of a place for up-and-coming talent, not an Eighties band with a very established following like the B-52s (who probably could have sold out The Warfield -- approx. 1600).
I saw Sara Bareilles at The Independent last summer just after she released her major label debut CD. It's a pretty good club, although my absolute favorite is the Great American Music Hall.

Haha, thanks. You are hilarious. I better live up to everyone's expectations now!

Party.
Foul.
As they said in the 80s. I'll need to find something else to do that Friday night!
Thanks for the info, I love live music, so it's great to find out which are the good venues.
What if Prince Charming had never shown up? Would Snow White have slept in that glass coffin forever? Or would she have eventually woken up, spit out the apple, gotten a job, a health-care package and a baby from her local neighborhood sperm bank?
Other good venues off the top of my head: Slim's, DNA Lounge, Cafe Du Nord, Bottom of the Hill, The Make-Out Room, the Boom-Boom Room, the Rockit Room, Amnesia, the Hotel Utah, Bimbo's 365 Club, the Elbo Room.
Oh, and there's the historic Fillmore. Kate Nash is headlining the Fillmore on Tuesday May the 13th; there are still tickets available (click here).
I don't have a highly methodical way of finding live shows, but I use MySpace to friend mostly local bands, plus I read local blog SFist. They have a weekly feature on Mondays called "This Week in Le Rock" that lists selected upcoming rock shows; here's the one from this Monday. And you should put yourself on Popscene's mailing list.
Another local blog, Laughing Squid occasionally mentions concerts, particularly of the arty/avant-garde type. They also have the Squid List event page, which leans more on art and technology events, rather than music.
Lastly, you should read Beth Spotswood's blog. She doesn't write about music per se, but Spots is frequently hilarious.

This is all mandatory information for me, I really appreciate it
Oh the Filmore, a place dreams are made of. Thanks for the heads up on Miss Nash!
Welcome to Cali! I moved here 18 years ago and can't ever see leaving. You'll definitely be surrounded by lots and lots of very hot Asian guys. Sadly, being in SF - it doesn't always mean they are straight.
