SF has a different kind of cold, I think it's the moisture in the air. My friends from the Midwest and Toronto that think nothing of walking through snow in a t-shirt dropped to their knees shivering when they first visited.
Glad you like it here, I'm sure if you want to set up a dinner, the locals will make it out to meet you.

Yes, I'm sure we could get a few folks together for dinner, just let us know!
Only surprised that it's a bit chilly here compared to nyc.
Yeah, many people visiting have an image in their minds that summer and California equals hot. When it comes to San Francisco though, it can be quite chilly in the summer. I see many not so prepared tourists here in June and July wearing newly bought sweatshirts that say San Francisco on them.
I refer to the often debated (if he said it or not) quote by Mark Twain:
"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
The warmest weather of the year usually occurs around September and October.
Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life. --Beethoven
SF itself for such a small city presents so many microclimates.
Rule of thumb:
West/Southwest SF (Richmond/Sunset/GG Park) = foggy wet cold
Southeast SF (Mission/Potrero/SoMa) = warm in the sun, kinda chilly in the shade
Northeast SF (Marina/Russian Hill/North Beach/FiDi) = sometimes foggy, mostly windy
Of course, on cold rainy days, everywhere is cold.
And on warm days, everywhere is unbelievably warm.
For summer weather, it's gloomy in the morning, fog burns off by noon, highs maybe upper 60s, lower 70s, fog rolls back in around 8pm, and chilly nights.
