Background for those that may not know:
Gen Y: Born between ~1980-1994
Gen X: Born between ~1965-1979
I'm new on this site and was sort of curious about how generational differences might affect relationships. From many of the pics I can see on this site, I would guess that the majority of the relationships are folks from Gen Y. Would you say most folks who have relationships and frequent this site are of Gen Y?
Personally, I'm Gen X and find this site very insightful.
According to that thing I'm an X'er too (and I've also heard of a generation 'E' (for electronic I think)
From what I have observed Y'ers are less complicated when it comes to dating. I think they are more free spirited and start at an even younger age to date. They are equipped with cell phones, myspace/facebook accounts and things happen faster
(Crap I used to write actual love letters!)
I also find that they want to grow up faster (starting to dress up earlier, wearing make up earlier etc) and are very self-conscious (thanks to the whole women movement and hollywood images that drill into them)
I am part of Generation X but I sometimes behave like Generation Y. For example, I like to text message someone quite often while my generation-X friends prefer to call. I also think that girls from Generation Y has less hung up about sex than Generation X. On the other hand, Generation X women are more intellectual compared to Generation Y.
I'm a gen-x'er myself. I think that the gen-y'er might be a bit more open-minded, knowledgeable and experimental about certain things due to the internet and changing social mores but overall they seem to be the same 20- and 30-somethings that we were. They remind me of puppies.
I'm a Gen Y-er. I only date older guys so every bf I've had is a Gen X-er. I really only notice our age gap when we talk about things that happened when we were growing up like tv shows, music, and events. Sometimes it'll be like "Hey do you remember so and so, or this thing..." and I'm like "Uh no", and they're like "Oh I forgot how young you are...". It's never a big deal though. I kind of think it's funny although I get the feeling that sometimes it makes them feel a little old....
Being born in '84 makes me a Y, but I often feel more like I'm an Xer. I grew up watching many older shows that were repeating on tv and older movies, and I often wanted to copy my older sister or aunts who are Xers. Once I was talking to someone, I can't remember exactly what the conversation was about, but I know it was about something that used to be popular, and I was asked her, "Hey, do you remember ???whateveritwasblahblah???" And she just looked at me completely puzzled, before saying, "Oh that was before my time." I felt really old then, only to realize later we were born the same year!
And as a random side note, I hate text messaging. I don't have the patience to keep pressing tiny keys; calling seems much easier to me.
Isn’t Generation Y the people who were born between 1979 and 1994? Anyway, that’s the guideline I’ve always gone by and I refuse to believe that I’m one of the old guys from Gen-X.
