Oka did not win the Golden Globe for best supporting actor in the television category, but it's great that he was at the very least nominated in the first place.

Masi Oka's visual effects resume at ILM is pretty impressive too. Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Terminator 3, the most recent Star Wars Trilogy, Hulk and War of the Worlds! He still works there a couple of days a week.

I think it's great too but like I said in the Heros thread, he really doesn't do much to get rid of that negative, Asian male, stereo type the media loves to shove at us. I don't blame him because he's just doing his job and it's at least nice to see an Asian actor get some recognition but he certainly doesn't break any of the Asian male stereo types the media throws at us and I would imagine that's one reason NBC picked him for Heros.

I love his character! Sure he's kinda the typical Asian guy but he's SO SWEET! He did have a romantic time in the Sun with the most adorable girl and it showed her really liking him for him... The fact that he was nominated is a great step forward. I LOVE the show, I never miss it. I know it makes me sound like a serious geek but I tell people I'm not available on Monday nights so I can watch it, LOL His friend Ando is a hottie though Though he's too obsessed with blondes for my taste, which also makes him very typical Asian...

as Asian males,I'm sure most of us don't find Hiro offensive at all,after all,geeky Japanese office drones do exist,they deserve their time in the spotlight just like anyone else.
Also,it's probably the fact that Masi speaks perfect English and is very confident in real life that makes this character acceptable,maybe we would be less than thrilled if he actually was an FOB from Japan struggling with his English.
the fact that he's a geek,constantly pushing up his glasses, makes his character interesting,if he were handsome and stereotypically heroic,he would be BORING and not have the fan base he does.

Another good thing is that the show demonstrates Hiro's feelings. It avoids the traditional AM stereotypes of not being capable of emotions.

I thought that Hiro wasn't that bad, especially after all my friends gave his character high praise, and I saw for myself that he REALLY WAS the potentially most well liked character on the show, and also after that episode in the subway where future Hiro talked to Peter Petrelli.

That was until I saw that scene in episode 18 where Nathan Petrelli puts his hand over Hiro's mouth like the way a man would when he stifles the delirious cries of pleasure from a bitch he's fucking the crap out of.

When I saw that, I immediately went WHAT THE FUCK?

Does Hiro have any chance at all of developing the character beyond the comical role????

I've heard that Daniel Dae Kim's subplot in Lost was fleshed out very well. I only hope that will also be the case here.
