i don't blame the admin(s) for it. it's costly to keep that bandwidth available. though i wonder if there are some other chat alternatives that'll cost less money, maybe there are chat hosts that sell ad space on the chat clients themselves - i noticed the current chat client doesn't have any ads when it was still free to all.

Dude, if you go into a pub only once for a few hours you spend at least five bucks for drinks.
This chatroom can entertain you for hours every day and you can donate just like a few bucks to have it one year.
Five bucks isn't too much.

And you can still talk to us on the forum for free.
So calling it a scam is harsh IMO and unjustified.
