yes!! there was an amwf singing duet. She was singing fluently in mandarin i believe. I think the audience got blown away by that. Then, the ascending torch lighting athlete totally blown me away in the end.

That was probably the best thing I've ever seen!!

I've only seen this and Athen's opening ceremony, but man THIS... INCREDIBLE. It should be on DVD for sale, fucking hell. I wouldn't be too reluctant to watch it again (I hardly see anything twice).

My dad was telling me that China's showing off their power; you'd notice too. But man, I don't think ANY city could replicate, or even come close to, a ceremony like last night's. As I know it, China's invested heaps into that night, human resources and monetary, and it showed; it was so perfect.

I reckon China will get a new sense of respect from around the world.

It was well done, and the introduction with the drums was spectacular.

I did cringe a little bit inside when they had the military in ceremonial uniforms hoist the chinese and the olympic flags. I guess it was inevitable, but I wish they could've refrained from using military personel since it kind of evokes images of the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The theme of these Olympics is harmony, and they wanted to show off the "New China". I'm not sure using soldiers in front of 3 billion viewers worldwide is the right way to send those messages...

i think its common at opening cermonies to use the military to hoist the flag because they are trained to do it so well. I remember in Sydney 2000 they used the military to hoist the flag as well.

OMG!!! It was so beutiful! I was on the verge of tears through most of it. The imagry and the message of it all. It means so much to the Chinese people to be hosting this event. Im sure its every movie producers wet dream to have access to an unlimted budget to do something like this. And the people!! All the people involved. I was so impressed with the vissuals created by people, not machines. It sucks about the crzy guy killing the American on the first day of the games. They say it was random but even so people will judge harshly. So many people want to find the faults in China. They have their problems for sure but the people in general are great people! I could go on! I want to watch it again! Sigh!!I miss China!
