London - More Single Women than Men?!

Could this be true?!

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/lifean...ing%20Standard

There's bad news for young women seeking their Mr Right in London. An extraordinary gender gap has developed in the capital, official figures reveal today.

Among Londoners in their twenties, women now outnumber men by more than 50,000. The gulf has been created by the advance of women in professions such as finance, law and the media.

The army of workers who move here to build their careers is now led by women in London on their Own, Single and Twentysomething - LOST.

Across Greater London there are 638,000 women in their twenties and only 586,000 men.

The gap is widest in inner-London boroughs favoured by young workers. Kensington and Chelsea has 16,000 young women to 13,000 young men, while Hackney has 20,000 young women to 16,000 young men - in both cases, a ratio of five women to every four men.

The trend is making it harder for young women to find a male partner and could be fuelling a surge in demand for dating services.

When 3,000 singles attended the world's biggest speed-dating event in London last year, the women's tickets sold out far quicker than the men's.

And businesses that target young female high-earners are booming.

Fit Rooms health club in Fulham has signed up 1,200 members in the eight months since it opened, mostly women in their twenties or early thirties.

Owner Mario Pederzolli said: "The female twenty-something market has proved the cornerstone of our success.

"Our members are typically graduate women in the early stages of their professional careers." By contrast, there is a fairly even gender balance among children, teenage and middle-aged Londoners.

The findings emerged in a new analysis of 2001 census data by geographers Daniel Dorling and Bethan Thomas.

In their book, People And Places: A 2001 Census Atlas Of The UK, they say: "The majority of university students are now women and, increasingly, younger women move to fill more jobs in cities."

Some of Britain's most striking sex imbalances, they say, are in "areas of London into which young women are more likely than men to migrate".

In Britain, women slightly outnumber men, who are more likely to die young or move abroad. But the gap is far wider in London.

While the population of the UK is 50.6 per cent female, the figure rises to 52.1 per cent in London and 52.8 per cent in inner London.

Throughout the capital, if all the men and women in their twenties paired off, one in 12 women would be left without a partner. In inner London it would be one in nine.

The capital is a magnet for people in their twenties and has a bulge of about 200,000 in this age group, fuelling nightlife and the social scene.

The advance of women in the workforce has been rapid. One in four managers is now female, compared with one in 10 a decade ago.

The number of female senior civil servants more than doubled in the same period and women now outnumber men among newly-qualified solicitors and doctors.

London sounds like it's EASY AS HELL to date multiple girls!!!

Afriend of mine recently hired a small club in Covent Garden and threw a hilarious, debauched 30th birthday party that would have been far more memorable if the hundred or so people there hadn’t had such profound hangovers the next afternoon.

A couple of days later, I took him out for a pint and he confessed that, until about midnight, he had been wracked with nerves. Yes, he’d had the usual irrational pre-party worries that his friends wouldn’t turn up. The really gnawing fear, though, was that one of the four girls he had dumped the previous week would.

This happily single guy had been enjoying a hectic year or so of serial dating, and things had got slightly out of hand. He’d got into the habit of asking every interesting, beautiful and sexy women he met (or sometimes women who fit only one or two of those criteria) out for a drink or dinner. Soon he was going out with someone new up to three times a week. And why not? His experiences were mixed. Some dates were purgatory; no conversation, no allure, no spark, no nothing. Quite a few, however, were pretty good: there was the beautiful Yorkshire gallery assistant with a filthy laugh;, the intense, slightly neurotic Jewish BBC producer who gave good conversation and was sexy as hell; the posh, coltish film festival executive who looked just like a girl he had always wanted to “go out with at university; and the slightly insecure, funny blonde who did something dull in the City and didn’t realise just how cute she was.

Keen not to start a long-term relationship, he established a private three-date cut-off point for all his dalliances. After a few months he’d seen a lot of women and had slept with a fair proportion of them. Despite his three-date rule, some of them were either so good or so insistent that he saw them beyond its tenure. Eventually he was cutting down his first dates to one a week, because he was busy following up earlier appointments.

This meant he was regularly sleeping with a shifting cast of up to five women in an extremely non-committal way. Of course he told them nothing about each other, and he was careful to spend each moment solely in that moment, giving no woman a sense of expectation of a potential long-term relationship. Although tired, and a little paranoid about sending the wrong text message to the wrong woman, he was loving it — until the birthday loomed. He realised that they would all expect to be invited. And that was impossible. So he dumped them. One girl did turn up that night — but she was the one he hadn’t dumped, the one he thought he really liked. A year on, they’re still going out. I think they’re made for each other.

Sometimes he did feel a trifle immoral, but only once does he concede that things became a little sordid. He arranged a date with a very attractive woman he’d first met at a music festival. There, they’d flirted pretty outrageously, and he was almost sure that if he played it the right way — a “shock and awe evening — the date would lead speedily to bed. So he arranged a table at the Ivy, was extremely solicitous, didn’t skimp on the champagne and afterwards they headed for the bar of the boutique hotel where he had already booked a room.

All went spectacularly to plan. So good was it that when the week after she suggested meeting at a pub he agreed, even though he had decided she should really stand as a debauched one-off. At the pub things advanced as quickly as before. They ended up spending the night in a pretty vile B&B around the corner more commonly frequented by newly arrived immigrants and, that evening, some loud Manchester crackheads. They never did get to a third date. Sure, men can spend their precious “dating time carefully searching out that oh-so- .special woman worthy of putting on a pedestal, showering with security and consecrating as “The One.

But for the slightly more circumspect male with even an iota of charm it is far, far more entertaining — and ultimately productive — to spend these nights carousing with The Five, The Ten, or simply As Many As You Get Lucky With. And it’s because of the hypocritical behaviour of many women, not to mention the unwitting collusion of the magazines that so many so unthinkingly lap up, that men can.

There is a huge pool of young(ish) women, towards the end of their twenties or in their early thirties, who stalk the city set on securing the man who will bear their children and give them security. After spending their early twenties loudly enjoying their independence, often ending relationships that have threatened to get “too serious they suddenly feel equally entitled to amenable dependence.

But on whom? A man. A man who will idolise them and remortgage for them. In conversation with each other and in magazines, potentially “suitable men for such a project are abstracted from the .individuals they are into a lumpen commodity, a concept. This is what guys can, if they want, exploit. Dating is hell for a lot of women looking to find The One because a lot of men aren’t actively looking for The One of their own: they just hope, vaguely, to meet her somewhere down the road. Or they already have.

Packrat, did you write the second post? If you did, AWESOME man, that's the most I've ever seen you write, and it's a good read too.

But if you didn't...maybe you should quote your source.

Yes, it goes without saying. All the guys here would be up for a relationship, but with the right girl.

London sounds good, but it seems way too expensive to live in. I heard you have to pay 800 pounds per month for a nice place in central London. And if you live outside central London, you're looking at a huge long commute to get to the party places.

Why did they make this city so unliveable?

Celestial Chimp is an unknown quantity at this point
I wanna go to London to watch footy!

"Say to yourself in the early morning: I shall meet today ungrateful, violent, treacherous, envious, uncharitable men. All of these things have come upon them through ignorance of real good and ill... I can neither be harmed by any of them, for no man will involve me in wrong, nor can I be angry with my kinsman or hate him; for we have come into the world to work together" Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
