Seriously though, No, i dont think british women as a collective are uptight, as with everything, it varies with the indivdual. In terms of untightness... Queen Elizebeth, Camila? Most likely. Kiera Knightely, Baby Spice? Probably not.
Personally, from my limited experiences with a certain british girl, i can say that the perception of uptightness is completely unfounded. I think this goes for everybody too; there are varing personalites in all races, some may be uptight others really open and friendly.
English people often become uptight when Australians remind them which country has been winning the Ashes in cricket since 1987 (not counting the current anomalous situation where the poms fluked it last time).
And, of course, English men become somewhat uptight when asked to shoot at goal from 11 metres with no one but the 'keeper to beat. Sorry, low-blow.
On a more serious note, English people (like Australians) are uptight by nature until you put an alcoholic beverage in their mitt. And sometimes even that doesn't work! LOL

I wouldn't say uptight but they are sometimes less approachable relative to continental europeans and this is through experience. I'm able to chat with french, german, eastern european women very easily in clubs and bars but english girls are difficult. Most of the time they don't give you a chance but there are some that are friendly.
