I believe that Brits are tired of bowing over muslims demands for many things. People are afraid of refusing to Muslims demands for Halal foods, mosques etc... The BNP party wants to put a stop to the Islamic culture expansion across the UK. The party wants schools to serve public instead of catering to religious groups of any kind including Muslims, Jewish groups. Parent groups are tired of seeing the school menu change to fit Muslims.

This trend also occur in Canada which Muslim demand school serve meals friendly to Islam. I think this is rediculous that one religious group can exert power over a secular education system. Muslims want to convert secular institutions into Islamic version hence it cause a backlash against them. Austria told Muslims that enough is enough. Austrian society isn't going to bend over backward to accommodate Muslims. Muslims have the responsibility to adapt to European culture. For instance, if Muslims want to eat Halal meal at school, they have to bring their lunches. The university isn't required to provide Muslims with prayer room. Education institution is a secular organization of Brit culture. It isn't subjected to Church law or any religious faith.

while the scandanavian countries were far less aggressive in collecting colonies then some of the well known ones... they in fact had colonies just the same....

Norway is the only one you listed that didnt have any colonial possessions, although for the period where europeans were collecting colonial possessions Norway was under the rule of Denmark.


but you're right that Japan if colonial exploitation was the measure, then they probably have more responsibility to 3rd world nations then most of the scandanavian countries, but they arent blameless either. nor is their immigration policy based on their colonial guilty conscience. most of those countries are facing declining population and they need people/workers to fund their social programs..
