My Best Friend

I've known my best friend since 7th grade. That's going on about 10 years now. For 4 and a half years of that friendship, we didn't live any where near each other. Now after both of us have graduated from college, we are living together.
We have a very interesting relationship from an outsiders point of view. On a regular basis we call each other bitch, whore, skank. Tell each other to kiss our asses. Then in the next moment its hun, baby, sweetie. We're 200% honest with each other, and it's obvious to any in our presence.
Part of the reason we've stayed friends for so long is because of the way our love lives are almost parallel, almost like a mirror to each other. Take for example her first serious love, and my first serious love. Both relationships started out as innocent friendships at a young age. Then as time progressed became something more. In the end, a huge part of what prevented the relationships from becoming more was the presence of a girlfriend named Stephanie. Her guy and his Stephanie, my guy and his Stephanie. It gets weirder. Any time my guy would call or contact me, her guy would contact her a few days/weeks later. And vice versa.
This didn't make either of us happy, although one of us was usually readily available to give advice/support to the other because the situations were so similar. We'd always get annoyed with each other if our guy called because it inevitably meant the other person's guy would call. But imagine my annoyance when I find out this parallel/mirror crap is still going on....
Ash has recently been seeing a guy who she has no chance of being with because of his complicated relationship status. Even knowing they wouldn't have a chance to be together, she still pursued a quasi relationship with the guy. A few months ago, I did the exact same thing, although my guy was unavailable to me for different reasons. Ash tells me today that both guys are involved with girls that have the same name.
We spent about 20 minutes cursing and yelling and seriously considering getting utterly shit faced.
A part of me is still in denial. Another part of me isn't very surprised. It really only further cements why we are best friends, why we are both each others sanity and insanity. And why we will probably be best friends until the end of our days.
Now for that drink.

ya'll are like soulmates.. but in a friendship way. kno what I mean?
thats awesome. I only wish I could have a friend where we have that same kind of relationship.
but, as for the relationship mirroring each other.. thats crazy!! none of the relationships seem to be healthy. and that sucks balls.
maybe ya'll should just date each other

Yeah I was thinking "soulmate", but maybe kindred souls is more waht I'm thinking. Like long lost twins.
Well, one of you needs to find a great guy that's a keeper - sounds like if one of you does the other will follow lol. Maybe brothers? Twins?Posted 09-21-2008 at 10:13 AM by tigerlilly5
