CA Prop 8 & Obama's Win

CA Prop 8 - Same-sex marriage BANNED

I'm mostly disappointed about this. Although we all knew it would be neck and neck, I think it really sucks that there are so many hypocritical people out there. All this talk of protecting traditional marriage is utter bull shit. Older generations got and stayed married out of obligation, not out of love. And then there is infidelity, and a divorce rate over 50%. Let's not forget that these same people are allowed to wed more than once, twice, 3 times. But we can't have those homo's getting married ONCE.

Fucking ridiculous.

But then I watched something on the local news today that got me thinking. There was a lot of protesting on both ends of this prop in Sacramento that ended up being not so peaceful. A boy of 14 commented on how the "tolerant" side - the people supporting gay marriage - became pretty monstrous (name calling, spitting, hittings, fighting) during the protest.

It brings to mind Sweet's blog (hope you don't mind me linking you) regarding Liberals and Leftists. I gotta agree with what she, and the boy, says about these people. More often than not, if you're not with them, you're against them - there is no middle ground, they don't tolerate middle ground. They will do whatever it takes to get you to agree with them, and if you don't/won't, or promote things that don't, there is a high chance you'll suffer some dire consequences. They are pretty close-minded on what are typically open-minded issues and therefore SEEM open-minded, but that ain't the case.

I'm hoping some liberals out there will disagree with me. Let's have a little debate. You'll probably just prove my point.

I'm basing this off of personal experience. I worked across the hall from an LGBT group on my college campus. If we weren't on their good side, we had trouble. I've always felt that liberals try to force their issues down your throat, and if you refused to be force fed, you became an enemy. You're either with them or against them, and after treatment like this, I tended to end up against them. Not because I didn't support their issues, but because I didn't like they way they came at me. I just didn't want to deal with them. And quite frankly, that dislike put me at odds with everything they believed in.

Yes I support gay marriage, but I certainly don't agree with the methods they've used to "gain" supporters. I think most of the time, liberals do more damage than good. I think that's what became of Prop 8. Too many people were pushed and shoved and force fed that out of sheer frustration and maybe a little anger, they voted against it.

But thats just my opinion. Which brings me to my point: it seems w/Liberals, if I have an opinion that doesn't match their own, I'm the evil one and deserve whatever they throw at me.

President Barrack Obama

As a Black woman, I'm supposed to be happy that he won. This is a huge step for Blacks and the US. Yet, I am extremely disappointed with what I saw at the election polls today.

I was a poll place worker today - I was the one handing out ballots and directing people. At the end of the night when we counted the ballots, many of them only had votes for Obama and Kevin Johnson (a Black man running for Mayor of Sac). So many people, Black people, only came in to vote for a Black man.

Black people say that they feel empowered by Obama, that they see change for Black people's status in the US. Already they've shown that this is absolutely not the case. There are so many other issues, LOCAL issues, that will come to affect us every day and all most of them seem to care about is making sure a Black man in the White House, as if thats going to fix everything.

I'm ashamed. Yes, you voted toward something big, but I wonder if this will be the last time you vote in the next 4 years. And what about everything else? What's the point of being empowered if you only use 10% of that power? How about making something of yourself? Doing something to change the way life is for Blacks instead of electing a Black man and hoping he'll do the work for you?

So while Black people are throwing all these lavish parties in celebration of Obama's victory, I'm shaking my head. I'm happy for Obama, I'm happy for the change that he represents, but I'm grossly disappointed in Black America. Compared to what King and X, most of us ain't SHIT. We haven't done anything to deserve anything. Obama, and the handful of Black people who actually give a damn about everyday shit are the only people who get my respect.

The rest of you....I can't even form the right words for how much I detest you.

I cant even explain how happy I am that obama is the president.
to me it wasnt about him being a black man... its the issues. yes, its historic that a black man is the next pres. but ok? now what... lets move on and let him run the country..and hope he does a great job.

it is upsetting that people went out and just voted for him because he was black. voting for all the wrong reasons. but it wasnt just black voters who voted for him... America put him in office.. a lot of other people minus the blacks voted for him...ones who actually know about politics and want this country to change. so while it pisses me off that SOME blacks voted just because obama is black... I know that it wasnt JUST blacks that put him in office. if that were the case.. I'd feel a lil differently about how he got in office.

but no.. im good. and ecstatic about our next president.

Prop 8... well, im not living in Cali yet.. but damn. they banned same sex marriage?? thats a shame. I'm all for same sex marriage.. I mean why not? who are we to tell someone they can and cant get married?? what right do we have? you think we would have gotten past all this...i mean, before they were telling us we couldnt interracialy marry... now this? in 2008? WTF? so obama won cali... yet...... these same ppl cant let gays marry?

    interesting....

when are people gonna get the fuck over it...and let people love. and do what they want to do?

ok.. sorry for the blog within a blog.. long as comment I know.. im done now tho. lol

I highly doubt that blacks showed up to vote in droves just b/c O'Bama is black. EVERYONE showed up to vote young/old, all colors in record #s. It's b/c we are ALL sick and tired of Bush messing up our entire country as well as our relationship with other countries. Unfort, McCain was on the bad end of Bush's rep, being the Republican candidate. People just want CHANGE. O'Bama represents that! It reminds me of the Kennedy victory when all the YOUNGER generation showed up in record #s to vote when they never did before.

lol. i only read up to the debate part. i disagree that it has to be a debate and then it becomes that negative stigma of fighting, etc. i only discuss this issue because if i don't no one will know or believe that it is untrue. but, i guess my point of view will automatically be viewed as a debate??? so, then that goes into making assumptions that build more assumptions and create more of what is the negative stereotype. lol. ok, anyway, i will say i am a liberal and i voted no on prop 8. i do think that fags and such have every right to be declared married legally. i see absolutely nothing wrong with it. i did not tell anyone to vote my way on a serious note. i have not forced anyone to do so. i actually have a lot of people around me who disagree with my choice, view, and vote. but, none of them can make me think differently or vote differently. i could care less about all the religious and *morale* reasons people are using as excuses because in the end it is all stupid. none of our thoughts matter in the end when we all die, right and we are all supposed to be judged by jesus and god. i will actually write a blog entry about this. but, it is a heavy issue to me. i am not condemning anyone for their votes or their choice, what i condemn people for is their invasive ways of trying to persuade others to vote the same way they are. this has been all conservative people in my case. they have been all out and on full force for such things.

Yes, there are people on the left just as militant in view and tactics as the right. However, I think this election is precedence that we should strive from the language of acrimony and left/right paradigms that only prepetuate a divide based on political leanings, religious beliefs, demograhics and so on. I'm sure the right doesn't appreciate being labeled as more prone to domestic terrorism because some whack job entered a Unitarian church and went on a shooting spree targeting liberals just as I'm sure the black voters of CA wouldn't appreciate being labeled homophobic because something like 70% of the black voters voted to pass the referendum.

Frankly, the people who've spewed such divisive rhetorics have been to my eyes the biggest hypocrites who were all too quick to accuse, berate and mock others for being....well....hypocrites. Little good ever came from such missive cycles.
