That's not right...

The bodega around the corner is selling fake Pokemon cards! We play the trading card game (and own all the Pokemon video games) so I am always on the lookout for new cards.
Starboy asked me for a dollar. I asked him what he wanted it for and he told me about the Pokemon cards. I asked him was he sure that 1 pack was a dollar; I know for a fact that those things are usually 4 dollars a pack. I sent him around the corner with the dollar. When he came back, I knew they were fake.
I could have Photoshopped that cover better than that. Plus these cards come 9 to a pack instead of 10.

Misspellings and bad grammar is a dead give-away!
I should report those folks to Pokemon USA...

Report it so that a million dollar company can sue a small shop owner into obedience and ruin him for life?
I am not sure if I would find that so cool.
The stuff is overpriced anyways.Posted 08-21-2008 at 03:27 AM by Lady_Fate

I've considered that, LF. Sure, the kids around here may never get to a Pokemon Tournament ever in their lives. They wouldn't know any better. But my son does play in those events and I want to make sure all of his cards are legal.
Yes, the cards are overpriced and then some! It is what it is.
I just might go to the owner and let him know that it's not cool to sucker money out of kids like that.Posted 08-21-2008 at 08:38 AM by Stardancer2008

yes, it is one thing to try to make a living and it is another to be selling things to children that are not exactly what they should be regardless of who makes more money.
that person who is selling fakes can sell other things, as i am sure they do, to rip off a customer.
i am not saying that buying something from the small business person is wrong. i am saying it is wrong to rip off children.Posted 08-21-2008 at 12:50 PM by xqzmi

Hey, consider the fake cards to be the "poor kids cards".
I really mean this.
There are many parents who can't afford those overpriced originals and their kids would never get any.
But their kids do not want to feel left out.
Considering this I do not think the fake products are all that bad, they are at least something for the poor people in a competitive world.
You can just take care that your son gets the right ones then, if he goes to tournaments.
But the fake ones also have their use in a world where nine pieces of paper cost an amount where people in other countries work a week for.
OK, I know I am a chaot at heart, but this world is cruel to some kids.
And big companies are greedy.
So I personally don't care about product faking, it's a punishment for those only who suck our cash off us in light speed.
You know what the right ones look like exactly? Go get them for yourself and your problem is over.

i have been and am poor. i understand this. but, there is no need for either overpriced items or fake. i am not in the mood to debate this.Posted 08-21-2008 at 12:58 PM by xqzmi

one last thing, if the poor kids have the fake ones that are that bad, they will be laughed at and made to feel even more left out. so, for that being a factor, i am finished with my opinion.Posted 08-21-2008 at 01:03 PM by xqzmi

That's ok, x.
I say it again, the biggest ripper offers are those who dominate the market and have no qualms to sell for the prices they do.
The cards are produced for only cents.
If someone needs the real thing, get it and leave the fakes for ...
people like me.
I am not having kids but they nowadays get teased by massive advertisement and then peer pressure into wanting all the expensive stuff and I know personally how it is to be laughed at for not wearing the right clothing brands at school.
Having said this, I hate brand hypes.
But I do get why stardancer wants the real thing for her son.Posted 08-21-2008 at 01:06 PM by Lady_Fate

i understand.
i don't mind fake things, but, i am not a child anymore. even though i did not have all the top of the line of most desired things as a child, i managed to do ok and i was satisfied with that. i never was a materialistic person.
but, i understand the desire to want to be involved with something that a child may think they can bond over and such. sometimes it does not matter what types of values a parent tries to instill into their children or teach them.
this is a good example of what the world is. but, again, if it were clothes or something else, it is less of an issue. in my opinion, at least.Posted 08-21-2008 at 01:14 PM by xqzmi

I'm not trying to start a "rich kid, poor kid" debate. My concern is about getting the store owners in our neighborhoods to do the right thing. If you know that you can't sell the real thing, don't try to get over by selling fakes.
I'm not a slave to fashion by any means. However, I will not buy a fake Gucci or Coach bag. I'll save my money and buy the real thing. Adults can choose to be cheap if they must have an item. Kids don't have that choice unless they are shown the difference between the real item and the fake item.Posted 08-21-2008 at 09:15 PM by Stardancer2008

i am sure we agree with you on some point. we were not having a debate. we were just sort of sharing our opinion on what would be better.Posted 08-22-2008 at 02:18 AM by xqzmi
