Even the desert must have its rain.
Even the moon must cast its own light.
Even a star must die when it is time.
Even I must share my pain.

Self Forgiveness

The ability to forgive one's self for being human can be especially difficult. Everyone has to grapple with the pressures of society to be perfect. Then who is to blame when it just is not possible to be said expectation? No one is innately meant to shoulder such a godly responsibility, but individuals try to bear it nonetheless. Despite his or her best intentions, efforts, and sacrifices, eventually he or she stumbles. Then that person must watch as what was carried topples to the ground and shatters like finest glass.
The consquences of failure can be scarring. There is a scathing mixture of emotions that must be dealth with. Guilt at having let down others. Shame at not being capable. Grief over a lost chance. Anger directed at the obstycle. Self loathing for existing as a creature who is less than divine. Perhaps even a sense of detachment from purpose, from the surrounding world.
That is where self forgivenes must come into play.
Self forgiveness is what allows a person to meet his or her own eyes again in the mirror. It is the mechanism that begins the healing prcocess. It is where an individual finds hope for the future and the tenacity to move forward. Because after the self dericisive tears and laughter, the human core remains. Through self forgiveness, an individual draws nearer to his or her unique inner strength. This is a strength he or she might not have been aware of until that moment of falling.
Humans are molded as much from success as they are from failure.

Forgiving is hard
I too beat myself up over many years worrying about what everything thinks of things that I did. When you are young you do some things you regret. But, eventually you grow up and must forget that so you can move on. Some people never let it go and constantly remind you of the things you did. You have to get away from those types of people. Everyone does things they are not proud of, but just don't give anyone the chance to keep reminding you of it. Living away from those that hurt us the most is the best remedy.Posted 10-20-2008 at 09:02 AM by luvasiagal
