Unfortunately for you Dallas (and Texas) ladies, I decided to pick New Jersey, even though the Dallas tournament event would take place just after my birthday, I had decided earlier this year that I won't be going too far away on my birthday this year.

Sorry Dallas ladies, but you will have to wait!

Two days ago was the birthday of the father of the nation of India, Mohandes "Mahatma" Gandhi.

Gandhi is most known for his non-violent resistance to the then British rule of India until its independence, however, he is known to be a vegetarian.

And in India, on Gandhi's birthday, which is a national holiday, no meat or alcohol is sold or consumed on this day (by law, I believe) to honor his legacy.

So two days ago, I went without meat the entire day (and I usually don't drink alcohol anyway).

Going without meat the entire day was a challenge, as I was hungering for a snack between meals for the first time in a while, so I had some mini Butterfingers.

I didn't go vegan because I had dairy as part of my breakfast, but otherwise, I managed to pull it off for the day, which was made easier because I wasn't at home for dinner that night.

Not only was it Gandhi's birthday, but also the UN declared that day the "International Day Of Non-Violence" and I managed to get through that unscathed.

I even extended the vegetarian and non-violence day to the board games I played that Friday night, trying to avoid games with themes such as war and slaughtering animals for food.

And boy, did I realize that I should have taken one or two more vacation days, as by lunchtime today at work, my mood was practically like Gordon Ramsay's.

Basically in short, it was a combination of things that all hit in a short period today that put me at that point, as well as a few things from yesterday.

Of course, now I am not planning on taking anymore vacation days until 2010, and the potential exists for some really miserable days at work.

Of course, even tho I will be replacing the motherboard and hard drives of my computer soon, I removed a lot of dust inside the computer after unplugging everything the night before the renovation before moving it into a closet for temporary storage.

Now the apartment is brighter in appearance with the new paint and new tile.

It has been a tough week, but at least now life is almost back to normal.

I will probably stay connected via an internet cafe during the renovation period.

It may be the weekend by the time I get reconnected at home, and even then I will be making preps for my computer to be upgraded the weekend after this coming weekend.

In short, not really a true vacation from work at all. My next true vacation period might well be at some point in 2010.

I had taken two days of vacation from work last week, and on Day 1 of 2 of the vacation, I headed out for to a suburb on a very nice cool day.

I did go into a shop, and then for lunch, I treated myself to a nice picnic lunch outdoors, with a Lugano sub (a version of the Italian sandwich with Swiss cheese) bought from a deli inside a shop which sells imported Italian food items in the center of town.

Went back into town later in the day and eventually went to do my usual Thursday night of euchre (a card game) in a pub with some friends, which I hadn't done in nearly a month.

I had intended Day 2 of the vacation to unclutter/clean up stuff, but I decided to put it off (a bit of an ill advised move on my part). So I spent nearly all of the day home, but went out to do my usual Friday night stuff, despite being warned of rains, since I was considering clearing off stuff on Saturday and Sunday instead.

Yesterday, of course, was rainy pretty much all day, and that was the day of the funeral for Senator Kennedy, one of the senators of my state. Decided to watch most of the funeral on television, given that the only senators of my state that I knew were Senator Kennedy and Senator Kerry. I am not going to say too much more about this, as it would take away the purpose of this post and it would be way too long.

Because of that rain yesterday, I was forced to put off the clearing off of stuff until today.

And now, today, I got into a late start, with the result of me frantically clearing off as much stuff as I could before the place of my storage locker closed for the day. I was only able to make two runs to the storage locker, however, I managed to clear off 95% of the stuff I wanted to clear off.

That other 5%? I will probably use my desk at work as a temporary storage point which means I will be grabbing some extra stuff spread out over the next four days to prepare for them to be moved over to the storage locker Thursday night, the day of the week where the storage place is open later.

That said, I did spend nearly $40 on taxi rides to and from the storage locker, because I was carrying massive amounts of items to be stored at one swoop, which really forced the taxi as the only option.

Not finished yet -- but nearly there for the preps for renovation which involves retiling and repainting and takes around three days to do.

There is going to be some suckitude as at least 2 weekends will involve uncluttering as well as tossing away or moving away quite a bit of old stuff.

My desk will get replaced too apparently in that timeframe, and I will also upgrade my computer at the same time, which will knock me offline for around 10 days or so total.

The printer that I have had for nearly 8 years will probably get replaced soon as well.

What will suck a bit more is that I will not be able to sleep in my own room for a couple of nights because one component of the renovation is the repainting of the apartment.

Admittedly these next 45 days or so will have a lot of upheaval and some suckage in preparing for the renovation, but then again, it will be a welcome change since the apartment has not had anything done in the near 20 years that I've been in it.

During that wait, an AF was in the Bus Lobby apparently sobbing to one of the Mohegan Sun employees telling her that her boyfriend just dumped her and left her there without a red cent and as a result she needed a ride back to NYC. :yikes:

This is the first time I witnessed this, even though the casino has probably dealt with such a situation before.

That said, for those not in the know, Mohegan Sun (and Foxwoods for that matter) are at least 50 miles away from any major city in the middle of nowhere in Connecticut.

I don't even want to speculate if her ex was an AM or not or what precipitated this, but things like this will make anyone want to just go :boid:.

Late in the game, I was down to myself and one opponent after beginning the game as a four player game using official rules.

After I had landed on one of his Yellow properties with three houses on it a few turns back of that point, I went through at least 3 runs across the board without landing on one of his Yellow properties, eventually winning when he landed on New York Avenue with 4 houses and conceding the game to me at that point.

Admittedly, I was expecting a long drawn out battle that could have lasted a few more hours, but won because of such incredible luck on my side.

Now I am looking for an official Monopoly championship run for Monopoly's 75th anniversary next year...

An indirect result of having this late supper...I had to rush to the metro/subway for the last train (at 12:30am) and I missed it by about 3 minutes, so given with that rain, I decided to stroll across a couple of blocks for the bus which would have arrived 15 minutes later on a normal night.

However, I waited past 1:00am and only heard from another bus driver that the bus I needed broke down and won't be coming at all! What was worse was that it started pouring rain again, so I had no choice but to grab a taxi and it took me about 5 minutes to do this.

Ah, how I live for later metro/subway service on weekend nights like most of the other cities do.

That was because had I gone out at my normal hour to meet them, I might have been a crime victim as apparently there was a news report of four young men that were robbing people of their cell phones near my neighborhood, with one of them having a gun.

After I got off the subway to get back home, I walked much faster than normal to rush back and not bump into those good for nothings.
When I heard "Crazy" from Gnarls Barkley ring on my phone while I was at an event earlier this evening, I knew something bad was up, and my mother told me that something was going on with grandmother, so I called the hospital where I heard the bad news.

I am currently on my first workday of my one week vacation and so far it doesn't look like a vacation at all...

For starters, digital television transition has caused one of the major channels to go kaput on Saturday afternoon, and I have spent nearly 2 1/2 days trying to rescan the digital channels until I was told by someone at that channel that they are having issues.

Getting a new mini fridge is another issue I'd have to contend with and it seems that a lot of these are with a manual defrost freezer where we don't want a freezer for such a mini fridge.

Another thing to deal with is uncluttering my room will probably consume the better part of a day (or two)...I guess I may postpone that for a different weekend prior to renovations in September.

One final thing, which is fairly minor, but maybe time consuming is to head to a place 20 miles away or so to get a copy of a particular hobby newspaper as I apparently made a discovery a month ago and it has made it as news in that newspaper and I heard rumors that my name is all over that article.

Well, I've spoke enough now and hopefully I get to switch to "laid back" mode at some point this week.

As of today, more than 1/2 the month (18 days so far), I've had to deal with not one, but two hits with the flu, with the second one totally knocking me out.

The first bout was more of a sore/dry throat and coughing, and I had thought I was in the clear this past Tuesday after having to deal with 14 days of that.

I was so wrong, as after that one day of respite, the coughing came back again, but this time coming in with a fever, and when I went to the doctor's on Thursday, I was told that I had a 102, something I feared all along as I was having some chills and couldn't eat much at all.

The medicine I was prescribed had a warning that I will get drowsy (a type of cough syrup which has an ingredient found in Mucinex) and hence knocking me out.

As a result, I was totally knocked out Thursday night and virtually all of Friday (using one sick day in the process) and now I am hoping to at least get back into some reasonable shape by Sunday night.

Ugh, this month has been a terrible, terrible month for me. I've never recalled being sick for that many days in a month ever before!
